McClellan Senior Center
Mural Project Proposal
Trevor Coopersmith
Portrayed is a vibrant painting proposal for the mural project at McClellan Senior Center in partnership with the City of Vista. I have previously worked with Vista painting utility boxes for “Vista in Bloom” and have completed a range of murals in businesses, homes and schools.

I am proposing a dynamic mural that will flow around the entire space organically while reflecting the spirit of healthy Southern California living. As a professional artist, I am passionate about creating a piece that celebrates the local natural diversity while transforming the space into an active sanctuary. The benefits of the mural will extend to the mental and physical well-being of the senior community.

The mural will feature icons of Southern California grandeur, including an illuminated moon, a towering palm tree, a hand holding a red hibiscus flower, a golden sun, a radiant blue moth and a surfer riding a wave. The full-color rendering will be projected on the walls, and the painting process will take roughly 4 weeks over summer, as I’m confident I can complete one wall per week. I will use high-quality acrylic paint sufficient for indoor mural use, which will be varnished and sealed for protection. Non-toxic paints will be used to ensure the safety of the community members.

The moon symbolizes spirituality and connectivity with the cosmos while the palm tree represents peace and growth as an icon of Southern California. An expressive hand holding a red hibiscus evokes sensations of exploration, connections to the natural world, beauty and passion. The moth represents transformation while a radiant sun symbolizes warmth and vitality. An adventurous surfer will inspire physical activity and the entire mural will capture the tranquil and calming atmosphere that can be found within the senior center, synonymous with Southern Californian lifestyle and culture.

Alternatively, a bird of paradise flower can be painted instead of the surfer, as an homage to the natural symbols of thoughtfulness and color palette diversity.

As a professional artist, I am committed to creating a piece that will inspire and uplift the community center space. I am passionate about capturing the essence of the region and aligning with the McClellan Senior Center vision. I am confident that my style and approach will deliver a successful mural that is both beautiful and meaningful, while taking into consideration the mental and physical needs of the senior community.

Thank you for considering my proposal.
