1.Confirm Mayor Franklin’s recommendation for appointment to the Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee.
2.Confirm Councilmember O’Donnell’s recommendation for appointment to the Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee.
3. Confirm Councilmember Melendez’s recommendation for appointment to the Senior Citizens Affairs Commission.
RELATIONSHIP TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Routine operational item not corresponding to a specific City Council goal.
PRIOR ACTION: On April 11, 2023, confirmed Councilmember Melendez’s recommendation to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Community Safety Commission (Vote: 5-0).
On March 28, 2023, confirmed the Mayor Franklin’s, Deputy Mayor Contreras’, Councilmember O’Donnell, and Councilmember Green’s recommendations for appointments to various Commissions, Boards, and Committees (Vote: 5-0).
On February 14, 2023, confirmed Mayor Franklin and Deputy Mayor Contreras’ recommendations to fill unscheduled vacancies on the Parks & Recreation Commission (Vote: 5-0).
On December 13, 2022, directed staff to post a notice of scheduled vacancies for 2023 - the Local Appointments List - with an application deadline of February 13, 2023 and a deadline of April 24, 2023 for youth applicants (Vote: 5-0).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: There are currently several vacancies on City Commission, Committees, and Boards. Staff posted notices of vacancies on the City’s website and kiosk, as well as promoted the opportunity to apply through the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, other social media efforts, and announcements at City Council meetings.

SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO VARIOUS CITY COMMISSIONS, BOARDS, AND COMMITTEES Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee. After reviewing applications and conducting phone interviews of eligible applicants, Mayor Franklin has made a recommendation to appoint Denisse Barragan and Councilmember O'Donnell has made a recommendation to appoint Roderick Matthews to the Committee for terms ending March 31, 2027.
Senior Citizen Affairs Commission. After reviewing all applications received and on file, Councilmember Melendez is recommending the appointment of Rebecca Medici to the Commission for a term ending March 31, 2025.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with the staff recommendation.
