STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT:
Community Safety Commission VUSD Representative. The Vista Unified School District (VUSD) is asked to make recommendations for appointment of VUSD representatives to four of the City’s Commissions: Community Safety Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Public Arts Commission, and Traffic Commission. VUSD has determined that the Director of Risk Management should serve as their representative on the Community Safety Commission. The position was filled in late October and on November 9, 2023, the VUSD Board of Trustees approved the recommendation that Carol Crandall, Director of Risk Management, serve as the VUSD representative on the Community Safety Commission. The seat has been filled by Cheree McKean, Director of Care, Connection & Wellbeing.
Youth Commission Unscheduled Vacancies Appointments. In 2006, the Youth Commission was established to promote participation of youth-oriented community service activities and gain insight from the youth community on matters pertinent to young people in the City of Vista. The Commission’s eleven members are recommended for appointment by the Mayor with confirmation by the City Council. On June 27, 2023 eleven youth were appointed to the Commission. Two members were unable to fulfill their commitment, resulting in two unscheduled vacancies. During interviews in June, the Mayor identified youth recommended for appointment if unscheduled vacancies occur. The Mayor’s memo of recommendation to fill the unscheduled vacancies is included as Exhibit 1.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with the staff recommendation.
