RECOMMENDATION: Discuss the construction of a sidewalk on Plymouth Drive between Olive Avenue and Vista Village Drive and provide direction to staff.
PRIOR ACTION: None.
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: Councilmember Melendez requested the City Manager place a discussion item on an upcoming agenda to discuss the construction of a sidewalk along Plymouth Drive between Olive Avenue and Vista Village Drive. This segment of Plymouth Drive is partially improved with some short segments of sidewalk that do not connect. The average daily traffic on this segment of Plymouth Drive is approximately 2,500 vehicle trips (measured in October, 2023).
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with this discussion item. The cost estimate to develop a sidewalk along the east side of the street on this entire segment is approximately $940,000.
The estimate to develop a sidewalk on the northern segment of Plymouth Drive only, from Olive Avenue to Knoll Road, is approximately $375,000. There is a vacant lot along this (northern) segment of Plymouth Drive, between Olive Avenue and Knoll Road; assuming a temporary asphalt sidewalk along the frontage of the vacant lot, the cost estimate for this segment would be reduced to approximately $330,000.
