RECOMMENDATION: Adopt City Council Resolution No. 2024- , directing staff to fly the Progressive Pride Flag at the Civic Center during the month of June 2024.

PRIOR ACTION: On May 23, 2023, adopted City Council Resolution 2023-75, directing staff to fly the Progressive Pride Flag at the Civic Center during the month of June 2023 (Vote: 5-0).
On May 23, 2023, proclaimed June 2023 as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month” in the City of Vista (No Vote).

STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT:
Each June Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is observed across the nation to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, which are seen as the start of the LGBTQ rights movement in the United States. The purpose of Pride Month is to celebrate the LGBTQ community and honor its impact on history. The display of the Progressive Pride Flag throughout the month is a recognition of the diverse community of Vista and the City’s commitment to inclusivity.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with staff’s recommendation.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CHARTERED CITY OF
VISTA, CALIFORNIA, DIRECTING STAFF TO FLY THE PROGRESSIVE PRIDE FLAG AT THE CIVIC CENTER DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE 2024 The City Council the City of Vista does resolve as follows:
1. Findings. The City Council hereby finds and declares the following:
A. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is celebrated nationally each June.
B. The City Council has a history of recognizing Pride Month through the presentation of a proclamation and the flying of the Pride Flag.
2. Action.
A. The City Council desires for the Progressive Pride Flag to be displayed at the Civic Center throughout the month of June 2024 in recognition of Pride Month.
3. Adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Vista held on May 28, 2024, by the following vote:
