RECOMMENDATION: Discuss sidewalk(s) on Sunset Drive and provide direction to staff.
CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Traffic: Continue to enhance mobility safety, improve the flow of traffic for all forms of travel, reduce congestion, and improve our roads and sidewalks.
PRIOR ACTION: On February 13, 2024, directed staff to prepare a Pedestrian Projects Priority List including Plymouth Drive, Sunset Drive, N. Santa Fe Avenue, currently funded projects, and suggestions from staff for discussion at a Workshop meeting; and to apply for grants to support Plymouth Drive sidewalks (Vote: 4-1, Green opposed).
On November 14, 2023, adopted City Council Resolution No. 2023-202, amending the Operating Budget for Fiscal Years 2023/24 and 2024/25, and amending the Capital Project Budget for Fiscal Years 2022/23 and 2023/24 (Vote: 5-0).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: On November 14, 2023, the City Council set aside $1,000,000 in Year End Fund Balance revenue for sidewalks on Sunset Drive. Staff has not initiated design work on this project pending the direction received from the City Council on February 13, 2024, to establish a methodology for prioritizing sidewalk construction projects.
Councilmember O’Donnell requested the City Manager place a discussion item on an upcoming agenda to discuss sidewalk(s) on Sunset Drive.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact with this recommendation.
