RECOMMENDATION: Adopt City Council Resolution No. 2025- , amending the Memorandum of Understanding with SANDAG for the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant reimbursement.
CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Fiscal Responsibility, and Traffic: Continue to enhance mobility safety, improve the flow of traffic for all forms of travel, reduce congestion, and improve our roads and sidewalks.
PRIOR ACTION: On September 26, 2023, adopted City Council Resolution 2023-170 approving a Memorandum of Understanding with SANDAG for the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant reimbursement (Vote 5-0).
On September 13, 2022, adopted City Council Resolution No. 2022-133, authorizing submittal of a Safe Streets and Roads for all (SS4A) Grant Application (Vote 5-0).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: The SS4A program is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The City was awarded $320,000 in partnership with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) by the USDOT. The total project cost is $400,000, $80,000 of which is the City's contribution to the project. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was drafted with SANDAG, who is administering the grant and managing the overall project. The MOU allows the City to reimburse SANDAG for the City's portion of the match. This action amends the MOU to extend its termination date to June 1, 2027, as the project is still ongoing.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact.
