STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: The City received a request to evaluate the stretch of Melrose Place between N. Melrose Drive and W. Los Angeles Drive for speed humps as a traffic calming measure. Please see Exhibit 2 for the speed hump evaluation. Staff determined that this section of Melrose Place meets the criteria for the installation of speed humps.
As required in City Council Policy 600-07, the residents of this street segment submitted a petition for the installation of speed humps. Exhibits 3 and 4 are the petition and petition verification map, which show that a majority of nearby residents are in support of speed humps on this segment.
Staff collected data that showed the prevailing speeds near 747 Melrose Place to be around 29 miles per hour. The speed study is attached as Exhibit 5. There has also been one reported accident on this segment of Melrose Place in the past five years.
The adjacent properties have been notified that this proposal will be on the May 13, 2025 City Council agenda. Exhibits 6 and 7 contain the notice and a map of notified properties.
