RECOMMENDATION: Confirm Councilmember Contreras’ recommendation to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Planning Commission.
CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Routine operational item not corresponding to a specific City Council goal.
PRIOR ACTION: On March 11, 2025, confirmed Mayor Franklin’s, Deputy Mayor Melendez’s, Councilmember Contreras’, and Councilmember Fox’s recommendations for appointments to various Commissions, Boards, and Committees (Vote: 5-0).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: The City Clerk was notified on October 22, 2025, that Beth Hastings was resigning from the Planning Commission. A notice of unscheduled vacancy was posted on November 3, 2025, with an application deadline of November 30, 2025. Applicants were solicited through City notices and social media posts. Interviews were conducted on December 19, 2025. Councilmember Contreras is recommending that Carl Redding be appointed for a term ending March 31, 2027.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact associated with the staff recommendation.
