P
RIOR TRAFFIC COMMISSION ACTION: On April 1, 2026, recommended establishing an all-way stop at the intersection of North Drive and W. Los Angeles Drive (Vote: 4-0-1, Mangold Opposed, Pedroza and Vielma Absent).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: Councilmember Corinna Contreras expressed concern with pedestrian safety at the intersection of North Drive and W. Los Angeles Drive and requested the installation of a raised crosswalk. However, W. Los Angeles Drive and North Drive are designated as primary emergency response routes on the City’s Emergency Response Route Map, where raised crosswalks are not allowed. Staff instead recommended considering the installation of an all-way stop and a marked crosswalk.
S
taff conducted an evaluation of the intersection of North Drive and W. Los Angeles Drive for an all-way stop using criteria such as traffic volumes, pedestrians, accident history, and other conditions. Please see Exhibit 2 for the evaluation. Staff determined that the intersection met the criteria for an all -way stop. If the all-way stop is approved, staff proposes to install a marked crosswalk on the east leg of the intersection. A new curb ramp is needed on the north side of the intersection to accommodate the new crosswalk.
The
adjacent properties have been notified that this proposal will be on the May 12, 2026, City Council meeting agenda. Exhibits 3 and 4 show the map of notified properties and the notice sent to the properties.
