CORRELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS: Traffic: Continue to enhance mobility safety, improve the flow of traffic for all forms of travel, reduce congestion, and improve our roads and sidewalks.
PRIOR ACTION: On June 8, 1999, adopted City Council Resolution No. 99 -84, establishing a no parking zone along the north side of West Vista Way from Durian Street to 300 feet westerly (frontage of Family Fun Center, 1525 West Vista Way) (Vote: 5-0).
P
RIOR TRAFFIC COMMISSION ACTION:
On June 3, 2026, took the following actions (Vote: 5-1, Mangold Opposed, Vielma Absent):
1. Recommended rescinding City Council Resolution 99-84, establishing a No Parking Zone Along the North Side of West Vista Way from Durian Street to 300 Feet Westerly (Frontage of Family Fun Center, 1525 West Vista Way).
2. Recommended establishing a 2-hour time limited parking zone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the north side of
W. Vista Way from Durian Street to 300 feet westerly (along the frontage of 1525 W. Vista Way).
3. Recommended establishing a no parking zone from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. on the north side of W. Vista Way from Durian Street to 300 feet westerly (along the frontage of 1525 W. Vista Way).
STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT:
The City received a request from the business owner of Primo Food Mart at 1535 W. Vista Way to allow 2- hour time limit parking for their customers adjacent to 1525 W. Vista Way where a no parking zone currently exists in accordance with City Council Resolution 99-84. Please see Exhibit 2.
S
taff reviewed the no parking zone and found no specific traffic safety or operational issues with allowing 2- hour time limit parking between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Since this area has experienced issues with people lodging in vehicles overnight, staff also recommends prohibiting parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. These changes will allow short-term daytime parking, providing additional parking for customers of adjacent businesses, while prohibiting overnight or long-term parking.
