5. CONSIDERATION
a.
CONSIDERATION AND ACTION ON PROPOSED SHADELANDS PROPERTY AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT BRANDING.
Assistant City Manager Teri Killgore introduced the item. She reported that as part of the implementation of the strategic plan for the Shadelands Property Business Improvement District (PBID) for 2019-2029, the PBID Steering Committee has been exploring the creation of a new brand for the District. The proposed new brand would replace the existing brand on marketing materials, and physical improvements such as bus wraps and potential future signage. Given this committee is advisory to the City Council, the City Council was asked to review, discuss and approve the potential branding.
Bob Linscheid, President and CEO of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, discussed the journey of the last eight months for the rebranding of the PBID.
Jared Asch, Capstone Government Affairs, discussed the proposed rebranding further.
Andrew Thibault, EMC Research, discussed the research findings.
Calvin Jung, Creative:MINT, discussed the brand roadmap.
Mayor Haskew opened the item for public comment. No public comments were received.
The City Council provided feedback.
City Manager Buckshi summarized the consensus of the City Council. He reported there was general, overall support of the concept of rebranding. Council was supportive of the video, billboard signage and the “S” shaped logo. Job center and commerce, in addition to the expansion of the other elements that were highlighted, should also be a focus of the marketing plan. The PBID Steering Committee should consider expanding on the color palette – use of more colors, not just the dark orange and black; and should consider other options for the District Name and the Tag Line. No formal action was taken and the item will return to the City Council at a future date.
