Mayor Pro Tem Saldaña: Looking forward to collaborating in the citywide cleanup in October.
16) REPORTS FROM THE CITY MANAGER:
City Manager Hurlbert updated the city council on the following:
• Community Breakfast was held at the Wasco State Prison on September 3, 2025. • The Rose Festival update: 50 parade entries, with the PAL float winning third place. City vehicles were on display, along with city booths representing the Police Department, Animal Control, and the city as a whole . The Rose tour was manned and brought back this year using the Dial-A-Ride van. • Ribbon-cutting event for a local business , Linda y Fina Boutique, occurred on September 9, 2025.
• The Kern EDC Annual Dinner held on September 10, 2025, was well attended. • Dial A Ride will be transporting 24 seniors to the Kern County Fair on September 19, 2025.
• Walmart remodel is having a grand reopening on September 26, 2025, and the city is waiting on the exact time.
• The fiber optic project, NextGen, will be holding its groundbreaking ceremony on September 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. on the corner of Central Avenue and Filburn Avenue.
• SNIP event will be held on October 1, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. in front of the Public Works Department.
• National Night Out event will be held on October 10, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• The community clean-up event will be on October 18, from 9:00 a.m. to noon; the location will be given at a later time.
• Trunk or Treat is scheduled for October 30, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Barker Park.
• Anticipating a refuse schedule change; there have been issues with the city trucks, the American Refuse trucks, and the type of carts that are being collected on different days of the week. There will be notifications to the citizens before that occurs.
