CONSIDERATION OF SELECTION OF MAYOR PRO TEM
Objective: The purpose of this report is to select a Mayor Pro Tem to serve until the first City Council meeting in December 2025.
Recommendation: Staff respectfully recommends that the City Council select a Mayor Pro Tem effective immediately to serve until the first City Council meeting in December 2025.

OBJECTIVE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
Staff respectfully recommends that the City Council select a Mayor Pro Tem effective immediately to serve until the first City Council meeting in December 2025.
BACKGROUND
On February 8, 2006, Council approved Resolution 06-18 fixing the term of Mayor Pro Tem at one year. The Council selected Dawnté Early as the current Mayor Pro Tem for 2024. Due to an oversight by the City Clerk, the appointment of the Mayor Pro Tem for 2024 took place in March 2024, and the appointment for 2025 is occurring at this meeting. However, the regularly scheduled selection process will resume starting in December 2025 and moving forward.
ANALYSIS
Resolution 06-18 states that in non-election years, the Mayor Pro Tem selection will take place at the meeting wherein the newly elected Council members are installed. It further provides that the term be until the first meeting in December of the following year and does not preclude successive terms.
