CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS:
1. CULTURAL RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT - COMMUNITY PARK
SIGNAGE AND TRASH ENCLOSURE PROJECTS
City Engineer Roxanne Hughes provided an update regarding the Community Park Signage and Park Trash Enclosure projects after staff met with Mr. Ronnie Stone, President/CEO Southeast Triunfo YMCA and his staff on March 11, 2024.
Community Park Signage:
The initial concepts for adding Community Park entry monument signage on Thousand Oaks Boulevard were reviewed with the Y team. The YMCA requested that the legal name of the Yarrow Family YMCA be included on the primary sign.
Sign options were presented to City Council for direction.
PUBLIC SPEAKER: Larry Persons
City Council preferred the sign with just the official YMCA logo and no legal name and provided this direction to staff to finalize the monument signs designs.
Community Park Trash Enclosure
Staff reviewed the design concept for adding a trash enclosure adjacent to the skate park access road, northeast of the new pickleball courts site. The YMCA was supportive of the design and discussed sharing this new trash enclosure and consolidating the trash bin usage into one single trash enclosure, while keeping the Waste Management service accounts separate (City and YMCA). The YMCA indicated their desire to contribute funds towards the construction of the joint use trash enclosure.
City Council discussed the location for the trash enclosure, approved the idea of a joint use trash facility with consolidating Waste Management pickup/servicing of the trash and indicated the YMCA funds should be minimal towards the enclosure construction.
City Council approved the final concept design and gave direction for staff to move forward with the project.
