1. PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE REPORT - COMMUNITY WILDFIRE
PROTECTION PLAN UPDATE
City Manager de Geus introduced the item and provided an overview of the City's efforts to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan which was presented to the Public Safety Committee (Honig/Halpern) on March 20, 2025.
Assistant to the City Manager Caleb Mott explained that Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) are collaborative documents developed by local, state, and federal agencies, along with key stakeholders and the public, intended to mitigate wildfire risk. These wildfire protection plans focus on reducing wildfire risk to residents, homes, environments, and infrastructure, and produce a list of projects that can be implemented by the City or Homeowner Associations (HOA's) and residents. Each plan is tailored to the individual needs and preferences. The documents must include public involvement and collaboration to be approved by Cal Fire. Actions and projects that are identified in the CWPP assist in grant applications with the State of California regarding fire mitigation.
On March 4, 2025, over 60 community participants attended a City-hosted virtual meeting and provided their thoughts, concerns, and ideas such as disaster route planning for residents, a list of approved vegetation for home hardening, residential inspections for fire resiliency improvement, and comprehensive HOA community planning.
