This annual event is dedicated to our Property and Evidence professional staff, who are responsible for maintaining the physical chain of custody, ensuring accountability, and keeping detailed documentation for evidence and property from the time it is booked until the case is adjudicated, at which point the items are either released or disposed of.
The role of this division is crucial to the criminal justice process. Its effective and efficient operation is essential to providing quality service to both the community and the criminal justice system.
Property and Evidence Week is an opportunity to recognize and thank our two outstanding property personnel, who receive and process thousands of pieces of property each year.
Each item must be documented, stored, and maintained while it remains in their custody.
Happy Property and Evidence Professionals Appreciation Week to our staff! Distracted Driving Awareness Month: Stay Focused, Stay Safe: Get Off Your Apps April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and a time to put safety in the driver's seat.
The Westminster Police Department, along with other police departments nationwide, will be actively looking for drivers throughout the month who violate the state' s hands- free cell phone law.
Under current law, drivers cannot hold a phone or electronic communications device while operating a vehicle, even when stopped at a red light. If you have an important phone call, text, or email, pull over to a safe parking spot to complete the task without putting yourself and others at risk. Please drive safely.
Autism Awareness Month
In 2020, the Westminster Police Department and the Police Officers Association launched our " Autism Awareness" drive. In support of this initiative, a unique shoulder patch was created and worn by interested department personnel throughout the month of April. The center of this distinctive patch features a silhouette of an officer standing next to an adolescent. The design was developed collaboratively with individuals on the autism spectrum to visually reinforce our message and highlight our partnership with the autism community.
