Dear Mayor and Council members:
I am writing regarding agenda item 11.B., the consideration of an interim dog park at Yountville Commons.
As the Staff Report reports, a dog park has been identified as a priority goal by the citizens of Yountville. Curious about the extent of dog ownership, I spent a little time on the internet.
I found that 40% of California households include a dog. The lack of a dog park in Yountville suggests that a significant population is underserved.
I understand and respect the fact that there are some that do not like dogs, perhaps even fear them. Beyond the intrinsic benefits a dog park offers dogs and their owners, a gated park also neatly segregates them from those that wish to avoid them. In short, a dog park works for all.
The Yountville Commons site offers a unique, albeit temporary opportunity to satisfy a need. Let’s not miss this opportunity. I urge to you support the creation of Yountville’s dog park.
My thanks and very best regards, Michael
