Why do you want to serve on this Board, Commission, or Committee? Having participated in and benefited from Golden Ticket classes for the past five years, I'd welcome an opportunity to give back as an active member of the Parks & Rec Advisory Commission. Citizen input is essential for Town staff to fulfill their responsibilities and I'd like to take my turn to provide that helpful voice and perspective.
What do you perceive is the role of this Board, Commission, or Committee? .
How would you represent the interests of the community? .
What strengths/expertise/special skills would you bring to the Board, Commission, or Committee?
People who know me say I am an excellent writer, voracious reader, critical thinker and skilled at public speaking. I have always been curious about how things work and like to understand "Why?"-- that makes it easier to remember and to explain things to others. A sense of humor is one of my blessings, especially the ability to laugh at myself. I can manage my schedule to be available for meetings and committee work as needed.
Please describe your previous community service and volunteer experience.
For more than 50 years, in addition to my paid employment, I've engaged in various types of community service and volunteer activities. After time on the air as well as writing and producing for radio and TV, I served as staff and management for community blood banks in IA and FL, public libraries in IA, and non-profit organizations, including CA Regional Centers and other social service agencies. I coordinated the walk-in emergency relief services at Catholic Charities in Napa, including a small food pantry and the monthly SHARE food program. I was a volunteer board member for a maternal health center and the Long Term Care Ombudsman program. I served as Napa County Mental Health Patients Rights Advocate and coordinated state-level professional advocacy education programs. I practiced family law in IA and as a CA licensed Realtor, served as training and sales manager for a large brokerage in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Throughout my career, in various fields, I have designed and implemented successful community outreach, public information and professional in-service educational programs.
