Safety Message
Heat Your Home Safely
 As temperatures drop and families begin
using indoor fireplaces to stay warm, CAL
FIRE reminds everyone to take simple
precautions to prevent structure fires, carbon
monoxide buildup, and injuries.

While Burning:

Use only dry, seasoned wood. Never burn trash, cardboard, or treated wood, these materials can produce toxic fumes or sparks.

Keep a screen in front of the fireplace to prevent embers from escaping and igniting rugs, furniture, or decorations.

Never leave a fire unattended.

Always extinguish the fire completely before leaving the house or going to bed.

Keep flammable items like stockings, curtains, and furniture at least three feet away from the fireplace.
