Why do you want to serve on this Board, Commission, or Committee? I am seeking a second term on the Parks & Recreation Commission (PRAC). Serving on this Commission is a way to give back to the Town of Yountville that has afforded me a wonderful retirement lifestyle. Out Town Parks & Recreation mission aligns with my strong personal commitment to promoting health, fitness and social connections for people of all ages. As an active participant in Town programs, events and user of Town facilities, I can offer input from a user perspective while considering the best interests of the community at-large. I wish to continue my service to make further contributions toward these goals.
How would you approach the volunteer position representing the community's interests?
I have reached out to residents for their input and encourage public comment on various issues on the PRAC agenda. Residents have approached me to discuss Parks & Recreation programs and proposals. I come to meetings fully prepared and immerse myself in all the topics at-hand. Listening carefully to my fellow commissioners, members of the public and various speakers allow me to contribute to discussions based on a full range of information.
What strengths/expertise/special skills would you bring to the Board, Commission, or Committee?
I am an avid bike rider, Pickleball player and member of our local gym and try to exemplify active senior living. I also support many Town events and feel I have a presence in Town. I am well-spoken, have good writing skills and creative ideas. My professional experience prior to retirement required organizational management and analytic skills. I have an extensive network of acquaintances in Town and the community at-large that I can tap for advice and counsel to accomplish shared goals.
Please describe your previous community service and volunteer experience.
In addition to serving on the Parks & Recreation Commission, I do a considerable amount of volunteer work on behalf of the Town and County. As noted above, I serve on the Napa County Library Commission and I am currently Chair of that Commission. As a member of the Pickleball Liaison Committee, I also serve as administrator of the Yountville Pickleball Facebook page. I attend regular meetings as ex officio Board member of the Friends of the Yountville Library. I am the PRAC representative on the Yountville Foundation Board. I am currently tutoring a young man from Mexico in English literacy as part of the Napa County Library Literacy Program. Last but not least, I have volunteered for over three years writing a monthly column for the Yountville Sun "Out & About in the Neighborhood".
Anything else you would like to tell us?
As the Town continues to move forward with plans for Yountville Commons, I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the development of related parks and recreation facilities and programs. I believe that will be a key role of the Parks & Recreation Commission in the years ahead. Overall, I strongly believe in trying to make a difference and the best way to do that is to provide service to my local community.
