Public Comment - Yountville Town
Council
March 3, 2026
Good afternoon. My name is Maria Sulprizio. I am a Yountville resident and I am here to raise an urgent public health concern.
Sanchez Bros. Landscaping, contracted by The Crossroads HOA, is regularly spraying Roundup herbicide in common areas where residents, and pets walk every day. I have video documentation of this.
The World Health Organization has classified glyphosate - Roundup's active ingredient — as "probably carcinogenic." As of February 17, 2026, Bayer has proposed a $7.25 billion settlement to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits linking Roundup to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Nearly $12 billion set aside in total. This is not a safe product.
When I raised this concern with First and Main Property Management, I was threatened with trespassing - for speaking with neighbors in Crossroads and on a public sidewalk.
When I raised this same concern at a neighboring property adjacent to the Yountville Community Garden, I was again spoken over and told by a Sanchez Bros. supervisor that I could not speak to their workers. This is a pattern - and Roundup being sprayed in proximity to a community garden where residents grow food is a serious concern that cannot be ignored. I am a woman raising a legitimate health concern in my own community. Intimidation is not an answer.
There is a saying I believe in: Pay the farmer, not the doctor. How do we honor this valley's agricultural legacy while poisoning the soil beneath our feet? Safe alternatives to glyphosate exist and are available now.
I am asking the Yountville Town Council to take a public position on glyphosate use within our town and to support residents' right to advocate for their health without intimidation.
Thank you.
