Town of Yountville
Resolution Number 26-4405

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF YOUNTVILLE APPROVING TREE REMOVAL PERMIT TREE-26-6 FOR BARDESSONO HOTEL AND SPA, AUTHORIZING THE REMOVAL OF HERITAGE TREE NO. 158, AND REQUIRING MITIGATION REPLACEMENT.
___________________________________________________________________________ Recitals
A. The Town Council is the reviewing authority for the removal of heritage trees pursuant to Chapter 17.128 of the Yountville Municipal Code; and
B. Heritage Tree No. 158 is a valley oak (quercus lobata) located at the intersection of Finnell Road and Yount Street and is the responsibility of Bardessono Hotel and Spa; and C. The tree was previously identified as being in poor condition and, on February 7, 2026, experienced a major limb failure that required an emergency response to clear debris from the public roadway; and
D. The Town’s consulting arborist has determined the tree is affected by mediterranean oak borer, is structurally compromised, and presents a high risk of further failure due to advanced decline and its proximity to a public roadway; and E. Bardessono Hotel and Spa submitted Tree Removal Permit Application TREE-26-4 requesting authorization to remove the tree; and
F. Town Council finds that the condition of the tree constitutes a likely hazard to public safety, consistent with Yountville Municipal Code Section 17.128.060; and G. Replacement mitigation is required pursuant to Yountville Municipal Code Section

17.128.070; and
H. The action is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15301 (Class 1).

Now, therefore, the Town Council of the Town of Yountville does resolve as follows:

1. Approval of Permit. Tree Removal Permit TREE-26-6 is approved, authorizing the removal of Heritage Tree No. 158 based on public safety concerns.

2. Mitigation and Replacement.
a. Replacement shall be calculated on an inch-by-inch basis for the forty-two (42)-inch diameter tree removed.
b. All replacement trees shall be a minimum twenty-four (24)-inch box size. One replacement tree may be planted in the vicinity of the removed tree, subject to Town Arborist approval.
c. Remaining replacement trees shall be planted on the Bardessono Hotel and Spa property in locations approved by the Town Arborist.
