RECOMMENDATION
Approve recommendation to sign a letter of support for SB 1040, which establishes a State-Local Matching Program for veteran's cemetery maintenance endowment funds.
DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND
SB 1040 would establish a State-Local Matching Program administered by the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet), providing dollar-for-dollar matching funds for contributions to veteran’s cemetery maintenance endowment funds, up to $250,000 per cemetery annually.
The legislation would create a more sustainable and equitable funding approach for veteran’s cemetery maintenance. The Yountville Veterans Home Cemetery holds particular significance to the community, given the Town’s historic connection to veterans and the Veterans Home of California.
