Agenda Item No. 4

CITY OF YUCAIPA

AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: P__.aymond A. Casey, City Manager
FOR: Special City Council Meeting of June 1, 2022
SUBJECT: Goals/Objectives
RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council conduct a study session concerning fund balance levels and possible short- term, mid-term and long-term goals/action items.

DISCUSSION:

Over the past ten plus years staff has consistently requested Council participation and direction in the establishment of City priority goals/action items. The intent of this process is for Council to provide direction to staff as to which activities should have priority status above and beyond normal day-to-day operations. During that time Council has conducted a series of study sessions resulting in the City Council adopting a set of short, mid, and long-term goals and objectives, many which directly translated into service level options/priorities in the budget process.

By Council confirmation and establishment of these priorities/action items, staff is able to focus on those activities when time and opportunities present themselves and also when possible, funding opportunities may become available. As a result, progress can continue to be made on these priority goals/action items that may not have occurred without such Council designation.

In some cases, it might mean that additional funding is sought, partnerships are developed, programs are redirected, or work is reprioritized in relation to this Council direction.
