SUBJECT: Public Arts Committee Appointment
RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council:

1. Appoint Jo Sutt to the Public Arts Committee as the Yucaipa Valley Art Association representative; and

2. Provide direction to staff relative to a Council liaison for the Public Arts Committee.

BACKGROUND:

The Public Arts Committee (PAC) serves as an advisory body to the City Council and administer a public art program for the City with final decisions made by the Council.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 2020-22. ADVISORY MEMBERSHIP. The Public Art Committee shall include advisory, voting members consisting of one (1) representative from Vision Quest, one (1) representative from the Yucaipa Art Association, and five (5) members of the general public.

DISCUSSION:

On May 10, 2022, Bob Norris representing Yucaipa Valley Art Association (YVAA) resigned from the PAC, resulting in a vacancy. On June 27, 2022, the YVAA Board presented a special resolution with a unanimous vote to approve Jo Sutt to fill the PAC vacancy. On June 29, 2022, the City received an Citizen Service Application from Jo Sutt.

Jo Sutt is recommended for appointment to the PAC as the YVAA representative, for the following term: July 11, 2022, to January 1, 2023.

With the appointment of Jo Sutt, the Public Art Committee has filled all vacant positions.

In addition, the PAC currently does not have a City Council liaison. A Council liaison can help in the selection, facilitation, and execution of public art projects for the full Council consideration.
