Agenda Item No. 10
CITY OF YUCAIPA
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: U Raymond A. Casey, City Manager
FOR: City Council Meeting of August 22, 2022
SUBJECT: Challenge Coins
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council:
1. Consider the ability of Councilmembers to distribute Challenge Coins; and if deemed appropriate
2. Review and approve the design of the Challenge Coins.
BACKGROUND:
As part of the June 01, 2022, City Council meeting, City Council once again reviewed the Short and Mid-term Goals and Objectives for FY 2022/2023. One of the items discussed in the meeting was the Challenge Coin concept. Although funding for the City Council Challenge Coins was not prioritized by the City Council, several Councilmembers have since approached staff regarding proceeding with Challenge Coins funded by individual Councilmembers. Challenge Coins are intended to be a way for individual Councilmembers to be able to recognize extraordinary contributions by individuals or groups to our community.
DISCUSSION:
Given that the design of the Challenge Coins would be City related and it is intended that the titles of City Councilmembers, Mayor, and/or Mayor Pro-Tem would be on the coin, City Council should still approve the intent and design of the Coin. Consequently, staff is presenting several options for Council consideration. City Council may decide to move forward, select from the options provided, or direct staff to return with updated options for consideration.
