FOR: City Council Meeting of August 14, 2023
SUBJECT: Contract Amendment No. 1 with Econolite Systems - Traffic Signal Maintenance and Repair Services
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute Contract Amendment No. 1 with Econolite Systems for Traffic Signal Maintenance and Repair Services in the amount of $16,000 for a revised contract total in the amount of $128,889 for FY2023.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On June 27, 2022, the City Council approved and authorized a Second Extension and Contract Amendment in the amount of $112,889 with Econolite Systems (Econolite) for Traffic Signal Maintenance and Repair Services (Program) for FY23. The current agreement includes providing operations/maintenance services and emergency repair services to the City's traffic signals. In FY23, Econolite was required to complete two emergency repairs, in addition to routine maintenance and repair services.
In March of 2023, Econolite completed emergency repairs at the Bryant Street and Fir Avenue traffic signal. The repairs included the replacement of damaged conduit that was caused by underground utility work performed by Frontier Communications. Staff has submitted an invoice to Frontier Communications for reimbursement in the amount of $10,099 for the cost of the repairs.
In May of 2023, the City Council directed staff to install audible pedestrian push button signals to enhance pedestrian crossing safety at the intersections of Yucaipa Boulevard with Yd Street, 4 h Street, and 5d' Street. The cost of the installation was $7,464. The cost of the two repairs totaled $17,563.
Due to other minor repair/maintenance work completed by Econolite at the end of FY23, staff is recommending approval of proposed Contract Amendment No. 1 which will include all of the repair work completed in FY23.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The amount of the proposed Amendment No. 1 is available in the Professional Services section of the Public Works Division in the Adopted FY23 Budget.
