CITY OF YUCAIPA

AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Megan Wolfe, Director of Community Service
FOR: City Council Meeting August 14, 2023
SUBJECT: Healthy Yucaipa Run Series Wrap -Up Report
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council receive and file the Healthy Yucaipa Run Series wrap-up report.

DISCUSSION:

On September 26, 2022, City Council approved a series of three runs to be hosted by the Healthy Yucaipa Committee (Committee) during the FY 2022/2023. The Committee began the planning process and decided to offer two runs instead of three due to the time and work that went into planning each run.

On November 24, 2022, the Committee held the first annual Turkey Trot and on April 8, 2023, the Committee held the first annual Bunny Hop. Both events were held at the Yucaipa Community Park, each offered two race options, a 5K or 1 mile walk/run and were well received by participants. The Yucaipa High School (YHS) Cross Country coaching staff designed the Turkey Trot course and were thankful to see running race opportunities come to the City. The Crafton Hills Community College Cross Country coaching staff designed the course for the Bunny Hop and shared the same sentiments.

The Turkey Trot had a total of 255 participants and earned $6,970. The Bunny Hop had a total of 275 participants and earned $7,005, for a total of $13,975.

Overall, the runs met the Committee's expectations for attendance and fun and they look forward to putting on three runs in the FY 2023/2024, a Turkey Trot, A Bunny Hop and a Firecracker Run.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The FY23 Budget included estimated revenue of $20,000 and expenditures of $30,000, for an estimated net cost of $10,000. The actual revenues for the event were $13,975. The actual expenditures for the event were $15,547.07, for a net cost of $1,572.07.
