SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contract Work —City Yard Underground Utility Installation — Project No. 11182
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1) Accept the contract work completed by MCC Equipment Rentals, Inc. in the amount of $505,000 for the City Yard Underground Utility Installation — Project No. 11182; and 2) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the Project; and 3) Accept As -Built Plans for the Project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The New City Yard Relocation Project (Relocation Project) includes the removal and relocation of the City Yard, as part of the Oak Glen Creek Specific Plan. The Relocation Project is being completed in phases and includes the site grading, the design, and fabrication of three (3) new steel structures that will serve as the City's Public Works Maintenance Yard. The Relocation Project includes the installation of three (3) steel structures, the installation of tenant improvements inside those buildings, and the design and installation of underground utilities, site hardscape, landscape, and paving.
On February 13, 2023, City Council awarded a contract to MCC Equipment Rentals, Inc. of Yucaipa, CA to complete the City Yard Underground Utility Installation (Project) in the amount of $463,571.
The Project scope included the installation of underground utilities including drinking water, recycled water (for landscape irrigation), sewer service, communication, and electrical service improvements.
The City Council also approved the amount of $46,000 for contract contingency and $23,000 for contract administration, survey, testing, and inspection for a total construction budget in the amount of $532,571.
During the construction of the Project, Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $41,429 was approved by staff to complete additional work required to avoid conflicts with existing utilities and to allow
for the connections to existing water and sewer lines in Oak Glen Rd. The additional work also included increasing the size of the recycled waterline to accommodate the City Yard landscaping improvements and revisions to the location and depth of the on -site sewer and electrical service lines for the new City Yard buildings.
Field inspections performed by staff during the course of the work and upon completion of the work have assured that the work was completed in accordance with the contract specifications for the Project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No additional fiscal impact as a result of the proposed recommendations. The table below includes the approved budget and actual costs for the completed Project:
