SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contract Work — 2022/2023 Crack Seal Program - Project No. 11188 and 2022/2023 Microsurface Program - Project No. 11187
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1) Accept the contract work completed by American Asphalt South, Inc. in the amount of $71,215.20 for the 2022/2023 Crack Seal Program — Project 11188; and 2) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the 2022/2023 Crack Seal Program; and
3) Accept the contract work completed by American Asphalt South, Inc. in the amount of $210,290.57 for the 2022/2023 Microsurface Program — Project No. 11187; and 4) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the 2022/2023 Microsurface Program.
BACKGROUNDMISCUSSION:
On March 8, 2022, the City Council approved the FY2022/2023 Pavement Management Program (PMP). Included as a part of the PMP is the 2022/2023 Crack Seal Program and 2022/2023 Microsurface Program . To effectively maintain asphalt streets, the crack seal process must be completed first in preparation for the microsurface process. Microsurface of asphalt streets is part of the City's annual pavement maintenance effort to maintain the City's public street network. The crack seal and the application of microsurface will extend the durable life of the existing asphalt streets and provide a more durable driving surface.
On June 12, 2023, the City Council awarded a contract to American Asphalt South, Inc. to complete the 2022/2023 Crack Seal Program in the amount of $71,280. The City Council also approved the amount of $5,000 for contract contingency for a total construction contract budget in the amount of $76,280.
Inspections performed by staff during the course of the work and upon completion of the work have assured that the work was completed in accordance with the contract specifications for the Crack Seal Program.
On June 12, 2023, the City Council awarded a contract to American Asphalt South, Inc. to complete the Microsurface Program in the amount of $241,321.67. The City Council also approved the amount of $20,000 for contract contingency for a total construction contract budget in the amount of $261,321.67.
Inspections performed by staff during the course of the work and upon completion of the work have assured that the work was completed in accordance with the contract specifications for the Microsurface Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional fiscal impact as a result of the proposed recommendations. The tables below include the approved construction budget and actual construction costs for the completed programs:
