SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contract Work - 7th Street Pickleball Courts - Concrete Footings and Steel Structure/Cover Installation Project - Project No. I I150-2 RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
l) Accept the contract work completed by Three Peaks Corporation in the amount of $187,031.52 for the 7th Street Pickleball Courts - Concrete Footings and Steel Structure/Cover lnstallation Project - Project No. 11150-2 (Project); and 2) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the Project; and 3) Accept the as-built plans for the Project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION :
On September 12,2022, the City Council approved the revised Conceptual Pickleball Master Plan for the 7th Street Pickleball facility and approved the development of Phase I of the facility, which includes the following:
1. Removal of the existing 7th Street Modular Skate Park equipment and construction of four new pickleball exclusive courts.
2. Installation of a steel structure over the four proposed pickleball courts that emulates/expands the existing steel structure cover.
3. Installation of lighting under the new steel structure cover over the four pickleball courts.
4. Demolition of the existing theatre building located east of the existing basketball courts.
On January 23,2023, the City Council awarded a contract to Western Steel Buildings of Park City, Utah for the Engineering Design and Fabrication Services Including Delivery for Yucaipa
Pickleball Court Cover Project- Project No. I I150 in the amount of $149,702.46 and approved a total construction budget of $ 169,702.46 for this project.
On August 28,2023. the City Council awarded a contract to Three Peaks Corporation of Calimesa, CA (Three Peaks) for the Project in the amount of $155,850. The City Council also approved the amount of $15,585 fbr contract contingency and 57,793 for construction contract administration and inspection. The Project consisted of installing the concrete footings for the steel structure cover, leveling the existing concrete surface, and installing the steel structure per the plans and specifications.
During the course of construction, underground site conditions resulted in additional work required to complete the installation of the concrete footings for the steel structure. Subsequently, on October 23,2023, the City Council awarded Change Order No. I in the amount of $21,292 for this additional work. Change Order No. 1 resulted in a revised Project construction budget total in the amount of $200,520.
Inspections performed by staff during the course of the work and upon completion of the work have assured that the work was completed in accordance with the contract specifications for the Project.
The completion of the Project is a significant highlight for the City and an important step towards completing the Pickleball Master Plan and achieving the City Council's Goals for 2024.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No additional fiscal impact as a result of the recommended City Council action.
