FOR: City Council Meeting of May 13, 2024
SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contract Work — Painting of Various City Facilities, Phase II — Project No. 11196
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1) Accept the contract work completed by Innovation Painting Inc. in the amount $104,400 for the Painting of Various City Facilities Project, Phase II — Project No. 11196 (Project); and
2) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the Project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On September 25, 2023, the City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $108,000 to Innovation Painting Inc. of Ontario, CA to paint the exterior of various City facilities/buildings. The facilities/buildings included in the Project are as follows:
• Yucaipa Transit Center (34272 Yucaipa Boulevard)
• Yucaipa Library (12040 5 h Street)
• Gazebo Structures (8) at Yucaipa Community Park (34900 Oak Glen Road) • Fire Station #2 (32664 Yucaipa Boulevard)
The Project consisted of the painting of all the exterior painted surfaces including but not limited to flashing, facia boards, trellis material, columns, beams, doors, stucco walls, eaves, handrails, wrought -iron fencing, and trash enclosures. Repair work was performed for all facia boards that were warped by either replacing the boards or filling in the cracks, depending upon the severity, as determined by staff in accordance with industry standards. The work also included repairing damaged portions of stucco and installing new stucco under the eaves where the stucco was missing. The exterior paint at some of the facilities was at least 15 years old and had exceeded its useful life. Painting the buildings provides protection of the exterior surfaces from the elements, extends the life of buildings, and provides a more aesthetic appearance.
Field inspections performed by staff during the course of the work and upon completion of the work have assured that the work was completed in accordance with the contract specifications and requirements for each facility.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The contract work has been completed in the total amount of $104,400, which is $3,600 under the authorized contract budget for the Project. There is no additional fiscal impact as a result of the proposed recommendations.
