TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Megan Wolfe, Director of Community ServicesUc- "0 Sarah Martinez, Community Services Recreation Superintendent aX--er S FOR: City Council Meeting of May 13, 2024

RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1) Review the attached Applications for the At -Large Memberships to the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC); and
2) Vote on the appointments of the nominated applicants.
DISCUSSION:
The YAC serves as an advisory body to the City Council and the intent is to improve youth involvement in City issues, activities and provide committee members with a roadmap for success.

Each applicant has been notified of this meeting and advised that Council typically desires their attendance to provide additional information, if needed.

CITY OF YUCAIPA; YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE PACKET 2023/2024
To the Youth Advisory,
Jaelyn Osnaya is a very bright and caring individual. She has volunteered her time to a program I feel proud of, Hoop Shots, which is held at the YMCA in Redlands for individuals with disabilities. She volunteered last year's season and is back this year to help those individuals with basketball and support their activities. She has also volunteered time with the City of Yucaipa on Make a Difference Day, by helping Candie with cleaning out the owl boxes located at various locations around the city.
Jaelyn also is committed to her education and works hard on her grades as she is wanting to pursue her higher education, in a few years, in Physical Therapy or Nursing. She loves to help people. She has been a part of her school's Soccer, Cross -Country, and currently Track team, and helped with managing Wrestling. She is also active in dance locally and spends her time keeping busy with all things offered to her.
I recommend Jaelyn to the Youth Advisory, as she has a great attitude and drive for bettering herself and her community.
Tbank yow,
Chris Venable

QUESTIONS

Currently, what do you feel are the biggest issues Yucaipa teens encounter? A lack of entertainment or recreational activities is a common problem I notice in our community. New Clothing stores, fun restaurants, or simple fun activities like escape rooms would help make Yucaipa a lot better for teens living here.
Name one person who has inspired you and list the qualities you admire about that person.
I admire my grandpa. He was born into a family of 7 boys. so there wasn't much money to go around.
After years of hard work and dedication to his life. he set up a successful air conditioning business, had 3 kids, and set his later family up for success. His perseverance is unlike any others i've seen.
Please list any extra -curricular activities in which you participate:
I ride mnuntain hikes for the Yucaipa Mountain Rike Team I nm Gross f n entry far Yuraira High and I'm a part of CSF.
What can the Youth Advisory Committee do to improve local teen's quality of life? Finding ways to make more stores such as clothing stores more revelant in the area, This can b help local teens find something to do in the area that is fun and nearby.
