Subject: Public Comment for City Council Meeting of December 9th, 2024 Date: Wednesday, December 4, 2024 3:15:16 PM
Council Members please appoint Hansen Wang or Sherilyn Long as the Council member for District One. Both of these people have represented the needs of District One during the last four+ years at many Planning Dept and Council meetings. This family truly believes these are the best choices suited to the needs of our District.

Thank you for your consideration.

To: Council Members for the City of Yucaipa
During tonight's meeting, the council members will choose a replacement for the recently recalled Matt Garner, to represents District One.

You should be aware that the voting population in District One is 7,723. Of those eligible, 3,527 voted in favor of the recall. That is 65.73% in favor, to 34.27% opposing. It is a clear mandate that the citizens want their voices heard.

Allowing for a special election to let the residents of District One vote to choose their own representative is the proper and just path. Having four representatives from the other districts choose for us is ridiculous. I understand that this is one of the options allowed in the Municipal Charter, but it is not the only option.

I hope you understand the optics of choosing this option. There is a divide in this city that needs to be mended. Voting for Hansen Wang will go a long way in the first steps of healing our beloved city.

I can hope at this juncture, there will not be a majority vote, and would result in the need for a special election.

Mr. Wang has attended nearly all City Council meetings, Planning Commission meetings; he is a member of the Healthy Yucaipa Commission and attends many of the other city meetings. He is known to read the entire meeting agendas including the many 500+ ones and ask meaningful questions. He is thoroughly invested in our city. He is a surgeon and has treated many of you and your family's medical needs, so you are familiar with his bedside manner. He has managed budgets in excess of 2 billion dollars and has vast experience in the Human Resources arena. He is kind, intelligent, even keeled, and more than qualified to represent District One.

Lauren Holly's expertise in EIRs would be a welcome addition to the city. Perhaps a position is available on the planning commission.

Bob Miller is a person described by many as an honest and well respected man. The optics of having a 3rd (active/retired) law enforcement officer on the council is disturbing. If he resigns from the School Board, will that not trigger another special election? He should fill out his current elected term on the School Board and run for City Council in 2026.

Please reconsider this method of choosing a replacement and let the voters of District One decide.

Thank you!
Lucinda Brinks
