SUBJECT: Purchase Order for Extrication Equipment
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council receive notification that a purchase order for Fire Etc. in the amount of $34,164 for the purchase of emergency extrication tools was executed.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The current extrication tools on Medic Engine 552 have experienced a critical failure and are no longer usable nor reparable for emergency response operations. Recognizing the critical need for functional and dependable equipment to ensure the safety of both first responders and the public, Yucaipa Fire Department (YFD) identified the immediate replacement of these tools as essential. On February 24, 2025, the City Council approved a budget adjustment of $34,000 to address tool replacement. Fire Etc. is the sole source vendor within Southern California authorized to distribute TNT Rescue tools, which are the specific tools required by YFD to maintain operational consistency and firefighter familiarity.
The purchase included:
-Milwaukee M18 VOLT SLC-30 C-Cutter
-Milwaukee M18 Volt 40-inch Ram
-Milwaukee M18 Volt 32-inch Spreader
The total cost for these items, as quoted by Fire Etc., is $34,164, which exceeds the $30,000 threshold described in the Purchasing Policy and Procedures. The Interim City Manager authorized an emergency purchase for the procurement of this equipment on April 30th, 2025. This report serves to notify the City Council of this action.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The recommendation does not result in a fiscal impact.
