SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contract Work — Fire Station #2 Concrete Apron Repair Project — Project No. 11230
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1) Accept the contract work completed by 4D Surface Management in the amount of $204,520.90 for the Fire Station #2 Concrete Apron Repair Project — Project No. 11230; and
2) Authorize the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the Fire Station #2 Concrete Apron Repair Project — Project No. 11230.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The Fire Station #2 Concrete Apron Repair Project (Project) is included in the FY 2025/26 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Improvements were needed to maintain access and accommodate current and future equipment in the parking lot of the City of Yucaipa Fire Station #2 located at 32664 Yucaipa Boulevard. Age and wear -and -tear had degraded the paved parking lot surface which caused cracks and created drainage issues during rain events. The Project included the removal of the existing paved surface, construction of new concrete pavement and a retaining wall to accommodate the transition to existing site features. These improvements replaced the degraded pavement and addressed drainage issues. The Project added years to the operational life of the fire station facility and addressed the adopted 2025 City Council goal to enhance emergency preparedness/management capabilities.
After going through the competitive public bid process, on June 9, 2025, the City Council awarded a contract to 4D Surface Management of Yucaipa, CA to complete the Project in the amount of $193,384.50. The award included the authorization of $48,000 for construction contract contingency, resulting in a total authorized construction contract budget in the amount of $241,384.50.
Staff inspections were performed during construction and upon completion to ensure that the work was completed in accordance with the plans and contract specifications. The contract work has been completed for a total cost of $204,520.90, which is $36,863.60 below the authorized construction contract budget for the Project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The recommendations do not result in a fiscal impact.
