Currently, what do you feel are the biggest issues Yucaipa teens encounter? I feel teens are experiencing Issues with phone addiction. Whether it's in a classroom setting or outside of academics. an increasing amount of students are using their phones for entertainment, comfort, or other satisfactory feelings.
Name one person who has inspired you and list the qualities you admire about that person.
My older is an individual who Inspires me as she motivates me to be the best version of myself every day. Although she was not born knowing every fact of biology or chemistry, she works diligently everday to become her best self:
knowledgeable, sincere, and accountable. Having her has my sister and mentor has challenged me to strive for feat I never thought possible.
i
Please list any extra -curricular activities in which you participate:
For three years, I have been a part of Yucaipa High School's student council. For two years, almost three now, I have served as the Commisioner of Community Service where 1 help organize Blood Drives, donation drives, the tutoring program, and a new Community Service Club_ Outside of school, 1 volunteer at the Yucaipa Animal Shelter frequently. 1 have served on the Youth Advisory Committee for two years, helping to plan different events from youth movie events to the Yucaipa High School Mental Health Week. I also currently serve as the YCJUSD Student Board Member, helping to advocate for students' desires when making decisions that will impact them.
What can the Youth Advisory Committee do to improve local teen's quality of life? The Youth Advisory Committee can emphasize more volunteering opportunities for the youth. It can help them discover further ways to immerse themselves in the community, possibly helping to reduce phone usage. By running the Community Service Club at Yucaipa High School, I can also act as a liason between the two groups, advocating oportunities that the Committee can help promote or even create.

AI7)C.ITIONAL INFORMATION
Currently, what do you feel are the biggest issues Yucaipa teens encounter? Yucaipa teens often have less activities than other teens in different areas. Unlike cities like Beaumont or Redlands, Yucaipa doesn't have many movie theaters, shopping centers, or other fun activities that teens can enjoy. Outside of school, teens in Yucaipa often find a lack of things to do for fun. Although locations like the community park are available, teens often become burned out or tired of using the same locations for hangouts. I notice that in my community, most teens tend to stay home rather than go out, as the most fun locations are far away in cities like Beaumont or Redlands.
Name one person who has inspired you and list the qualities you admire about that person.
One person who has inspired me is my mom. My mom is a teacher, and she makes a large difference in my community. While pursuing her teaching career all on her own, she also was raising me and my sister to be successful. My mom is extremely independent, hardworking, and ambitious. My mom has overcome multiple obstacles in her life, and this inspires me to work hard. Her ambitious traits inspire my schooling and athletic careers, and 1 have always admired her for these reasons.
Please list any extra -curricular activities in which you participate:
At Yucaipa High School, I am on the Mountain Bike Team. On the Mountain Bike Team, we race mountian bikes all across Southern California. I ride over 12 hours a weak after school, and I strive to be the best I can at what I do. I have made it onto the podium at over 15 races. My races with Yucaipa High school have taken me from Lake Perris all the way to Santa Barbara. On the team, 1 have convinced various other students and peers to join, and they have all enjoyed what we do. I have made sure to include my teammates at dinners, banquets, and even at school to make sure they feel seen and enjoyed. The bike team has had a large impact on my beliefs of hard work and drive to achieve one's goals.
What can the Youth Advisory Committee do to improve local teen's quality of life? The Youth Advisory Committee can advocate for new and Improved activities in Yucaipa. As written in my first paragraph, teens often have a lack of things to do in our town. However, the Youth Advisory Committee cancan can act as a representative voice for teens who may need something to do. Advocating for places like new stores, trails, restaraunts, or events can compensate for the boredom that Yucaipa teens may face here in Yucaipa. To advocate for these places, the committee can offer the opinions of teens like me, and we can demonstrate just how much Yucaipa can be improved with new accomodations for the community.

AIDIDITIONAL I N FORMATION
Currently, what do you feel are the biggest issues Yucaipa teens encounter? Recently, I discovered a study that explained how people who aren' t satisfied with their community are far more likely to feel lonely. It stated, `Last year, a Pew Research Center survey of more than 6,000 U.S- adults linked frequent loneliness to dissatisfaction with one's family, social and community life—. Satisfaction with one's social life follows a similar pattern: 26 percent of those dissatisfied with their social lives are frequently lonely, compared with just 5 percent of those who are satisfied with their social lives, One In five Americans who say they are not satisfied with the quality of life in their local communities feel frequent loneliness, roughly triple the 7 percent of Americans who are satisfied with the quality of life in their communities" (Novotney). To me, that says something important: isolation often comes from a lack of opportunities to get involved, not because people don't want to, but because they have no chance to. For teenagers especially, our community plays a huge role in whether we feel connected or isolated. That's one issue that Yucaipa teens face, not enough opportunities to get involved. As a kid, I felt that there were many things to be able to get involved with throughout the city. Movies in the Park, Parades, Friends of the Library reading hours, Festivals, and parks galore- Although the parks are fun, the city hasn't had too many things for teenagers to do. Movies in the park are more geared towards kids, and the festivals have beer gardens and music for the adults, yet what for the teens? I believe that Yucaipa should try and focus on expanding their opportunities for teenagers to get involved and engage in our town.
Name one person who has inspired you and list the qualities you admire about that person. 1 admire lots of people, but someone specifically that I admire would have to be my Grandpa- He was born in Dexter, Missouri into a very poor family, he grew up in a rural area with no electricity or running water, teaching him the value of the little things in life and learning to appreciate everything given to him. He then served in the Vietnam War after barely graduating High School, teaching him not only discipline and sacrifice, but his true value of leadership. After his time in Vietnam ha moved to Yucaipa, joining his fathers construction company which taught him the value of hard -work and the beauty of a great place to call home. After a back injury, he got involved in the real-estate business, selling the houses that he built. Here he learned his true business sense and determination.
He then bought the company and made it his own, Coldwell Banker Kivett Teeters- To this day the company still runs strong in Yucaipa, helping many members of our community. Although he passed a few years back, the values that he learned, carried on to me. His lessons of appreciation, discipline, sacrifice, leadership, hard -work, business sense, and determination still live strong in me, and I try to live up to his values every single dayl Please list any extra -curricular activities in which you participate:
The question you should be asking is what don't 1 do? In all seriousness. I air involved in over 10 extracurriculars at the moment, while still balancing a 4.0+ GPA- I am Junior Class President in YHS' ASB, holding office means being the voice of the Junior Class and being the deciding factor of important decisions for our upcoming senior year.
Along with that I am also the Junior Class President of National Charity League, a volunteer group that serves our community, which means that I hold meetings for our class, make executive decisions for our class, and oversee all of our class' projects- Another extracurricular that I am involved in is Bring Change to Mind. This is a YHS club that my friend and 1 started. It is a mental health club revolving around ending the stigma on mental health and teaching students how to help themselves and their friends. We are partnered with a nationwide organization, Bring Change to Mind, to include our school in chapter events and resources for our club! These are just some of the extracurriculars that I am currently involved In!
What can the Youth Advisory Committee do to improve local teen's quality of life? The Yucaipa Youth Advisory Committee can help to improve local teens' quality of life by promoting new, fun activities for teens to get involved in. A lot of the activities in Yucaipa are geared towards either kids or adults making teens feel left out of the equation- The committee can start to plan new teen -focused events for teens to meet, build friendship and most importantly feel a part of a community, our community. It could also work to create safe hangout space and promote mental health resources. By giving teens a voice in these opportunities, the committee can work together to make sure that teens' needs are heard and that Yucaipa keeps being a place where teens feel valued, supported and connected.
