SUBJECT: Letter of Appreciation for Additional/Outstanding Services - the City of Rialto Police Department
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1. Review and approve a Letter of Appreciation to the City of Rialto; or
2. Provide further director to staff.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On January 30, 2026, through funding provided to the Rialto Police Department, by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant, members of Rialto's Traffic Division came to Yucaipa to support our traffic enforcement efforts. Their professionalism, dedication, and proactive enforcement significantly enhanced our ability to address traffic safety concerns within our community. The partnership demonstrated that public safety is strengthened when neighboring agencies collaborate and share resources in the interest of regional safety. As a result of this collaborative effort, the teams issued over 87 citations and made an arrest of someone driving his vehicle at 116mph, on a roadway posted for 45mph, truly endangering the lives of other motorists.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The recommendations do not result in a fiscal impact.

Through funding provided to the Rialto Police Department, by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant, members of your Traffic Division came to Yucaipa to support our traffic enforcement efforts. Their professionalism, dedication, and proactive enforcement significantly enhanced our ability to address traffic safety concerns within our community. The partnership demonstrated that public safety is strengthened when neighboring agencies collaborate and share resources in the interest of regional safety.
Traffic safety remains a top priority for the City of Yucaipa. The traffic enforcement operation conducted by our deputies and your officers on that day, contributed directly to improving roadway compliance, reducing hazardous driving behavior, and reinforcing the importance of safe driving practices among motorists.
Please extend our gratitude to your Chief of Police, Mark Kling, and to the officers who participated in this operation. Their commitment to public service and interagency cooperation reflects positively on the City of Rialto and is deeply appreciated by our community. We value our continued partnership and look forward to future opportunities to work together in advancing public safety throughout our region.
