4. Provide further direction to staff.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On September 8, 2025, the City Council directed staff to plan a Fourth of July event similar in scope to the 2025 celebration, with the addition of enhanced programming to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. At that meeting, the City Council approved a budget for expenditures in the amount of $60,000 for the event.
The City of Yucaipa will host the 2026 Fourth of July Celebration at Yucaipa High School (YHS) on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. Admission will be $15 per vehicle.
Attendees may bring chairs and blankets, visit local vendors, and participate in complimentary lawn games and family -friendly activities prior to the fireworks show. New this year will be two skydivers with an American flag trailing behind. The evening will culminate in a professionally choreographed fireworks show beginning at 9:00 p.m. The fireworks program includes music production and synchronization, a licensed pyrotechnic operator, specialized crew, an electric
firing system, and all required pyrotechnic safety equipment. The display will last approximately 20 minutes and will be launched from the northwest baseball field at YHS, consistent with prior years.
To enhance the 2026 celebration and align with Council's direction to expand programming for the nation's 250th anniversary, staff is proposing the addition of a monster truck exhibition featuring professional monster trucks and freestyle motorcross riders in the parking lot area near Sand Canyon Road and Chapman Heights Road.
The exhibition would include four professional monster trucks performing demonstrations and freestyle runs on a dirt track built for the event. In addition to the monster trucks, the event would feature freestyle motorcross riders performing aerial tricks using portable launch ramps, adding a high-energy component to the exhibition. A professional announcer will narrate the show and engage the audience throughout the event. The program will also include opportunities for attendees to participate in a pre -show driver meet -and -greet and post -show autograph session, creating an interactive experience for families.
Staff has been working with All Star Motorsport Productions to coordinate the production logistics. The total cost for this additional programming is $49,000. In order to fund a portion of this additional programming, tickets would be sold, however, estimated revenues are unknown.
This expanded offering is intended to:
• Increase attendance and community engagement
• Provide additional entertainment prior to the fireworks display • Create a larger regional draw for the City of Yucaipa In addition, staff has convened a Fourth of July Planning Committee consisting of representatives from the Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce, Yucaipa Bulletin, Yucaipa Valley Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club of Yucaipa, and Yucaipa Valley Lions Club. This collaboration is intended to strengthen community involvement and event promotion. The committee will help with sponsorships and planning the event. The City Manager has secured a $40,000 sponsorship with Live Oak Canyon. On September Bch City Council accepted a challenge to raise $10,000 each to offset the costs of the event. The City Clerk secured $5,000 from Burrtec and $5,000 from Cole Huber, $1,000 for each Council Member. Staff secured $5,000 from Sorenson Engineering. Staff also applied for the Celebrate America grant and will continue to seek funding opportunities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Recommendation two is an amendment of $49,000 to the FY26 Community Services General Fund Budget.
