DEPARTMENT MESSAGE
ARVIN POLICE DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT
This year has been full of challenges and growth for our police department and community.
Our officers answered every call for help with courage, compassion and stood in harm’s way to keep Arvin Safe. We have made some significant changes to the police department, bringing us to the 21st century of policing model. Without a strong departmental team that openly welcomed and embraced the changes, we would not be where we are today.
Furthermore, the accomplishment of these goals is a direct testament of the support that we receive from the city council and city manager.
It is the mission of the Arvin Police Department to provide service with honor and respect, to protect life, to enforce laws, and to perform our duties in partnership with the community thereby increasing the quality of life for the entire Arvin community.

“Community First” that is written on all of our police
vehicles. The department recently updated all of the
vehicle decals and markings. Along with this project,
we also put into service a new badge and patch design
reflective of the community we serve. This shows our
department’s renewed commitment to accountability,
transparency, and community engagement. With the
new patch and badge design, you will see that both
mirror each other and have the City of Arvin seal
incorporated in them. The older badge and patch
design have since been retired.

Attachment: Arvin Police Department Statistics and Council Presentation_032823 (Arvin Police Department Annual Report – 2020 – 2022 Stats) Providing frontline police services remains the priority and the core function of the Arvin Police Department. Patrol officers provide police services to every member of the community to make Arvin a safer city.
This year, we saw a record number of arrests for illegal weapons and numerous Narcan deployments to reverse overdoses. One major change within the patrol division is moving to the team policing concept. Each officer now works with the same dispatcher and supervisor during their work week. This adds to the continuity of services provided through better communication and no gaps for service.

DIVISION

Attachment: Arvin Police Department Statistics and Council Presentation_032823 (Arvin Police Department Annual Report – 2020 – 2022 Stats) Our public safety dispatchers are Arvin Police Department’s backbone and pillar. This division has handled and or was assigned in excess of 15,791 incidents. All 911 calls were answered and handled in under 10 seconds.
The dispatch center also went through a makeover as well, bringing the dispatch consoles to industry standards. The dispatchers transitioned to 12-hour shifts, adding to their wellness.
COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION
7.A.a
Attachment: Arvin Police Department Statistics and Council Presentation_032823 (Arvin Police Department Annual Report – 2020 – 2022 Stats) The records division plays a crucial role within the police department.
This division handles all records requests and is responsible for seeing that records are accurate and complete. Our records division is overseen by a records supervisor who handles all records requests, interagency reporting requests, and acts as a liaison between the courts and the police department. The records supervisor assists our officers with getting court packets prepared, citations processed and assists the community with records requests. Our department this year went away from UCR reporting which collected 8 part I offense crimes to NIBRS who collects 28 categories for offenses.
RECORDS
DIVISION
7.A.a
Attachment: Arvin Police Department Statistics and Council Presentation_032823 (Arvin Police Department Annual Report – 2020 – 2022 Stats) The department has a Property and Evidence Technician
who oversees all division matters. This division plays an important role in managing and safeguarding the property and evidence collected during police investigations.
This division also ensures that the chain of custody and protection of evidence is followed and maintained. There are currently in excess of over 14,000 pieces of evidence held in the property and evidence room.
