00 74 00 AGENCY SUPPLEMENTAL TECHNICAL PROVISIONS

INTRODUCTION
The Specifications contained in this 00 7400 Agency Supplemental Technical Provisions take precedence over the specification language contai ned in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction, "The Greenbook" 2021 edition and all errata. This specification addresses the unique conditions in Carlsbad that are not a ddressed in The Greenbook. Therefore, if there is a conflict, these Specifications shall control.

The Greenbook may be purchased at Bidder/Contra ctors local technical bookstore or directly from the publisher. These Agen cy Supplemental General Provis ions are available only for download from the online bidding portal with Contract Documents. The Agency does not provide hard copies.

When used in the Contract Documents, stat ements or command phrases (active voice and imperative mood) refer to and ar e directed at the “Bidder” or “Contractor” as applicable. The Specifications are written to the “Bidder” before award and the “Contractor” after award. Before award, interpret sentences written in the imperati ve mood as starting wi th “The Bidder shall.” Interpret the term “you” as “the Bidder” and inte rpret the term “your” as “the Bidder’s.” After award, interpret sentences written in the imperative mood starting with “The Contractor shall.” Interpret the term “you” as “the Contractor” and interpret the term “your” as “the Contractor’s.

supervise and utilize the proper experienced personnel to ensure that the proper sawcut limits are established for all bike and curb ramp locations and the Engineer will not be responsible to direct the Contractor’s crews or otherwise serve in this management capacity.

Median Concrete –The Contractor shall match existing adjacent median concrete in both color and etched finish. The Contractor shall submit sample panels of the color and finish for City approval.

Samples - Prior to construction of concrete median surface, two (2) 5’x5’ sample panels shall be constructed to demonstrate final concrete color and etching / finish. Panels shall be reviewed for approval by the Engineer prior to any construction of concrete median surface. Approved panels shall be kept on site for the duration of the project and will be used for comparative purposes when evaluating final construction.

Underlying Aggregate - When aggregate base is shown beneath the curb, curb and gutters, cross gutters, and other minor concrete, aggregate base shall 6 inches minimum thickness unless otherwise noted. Concrete channels shall have 4-inches of underlying aggregate base and shall be as shown in the standard detail.
303-5.5.5 Alley Intersections, Access Ramps, Driveways ADD the following subsection:

Detectable Warning Tiles / Truncated Domes shall be installed at locations shown on the Plans and per SDRSD G-30.

ADD the following subsection:
303-5.5.5.1.1 Curb Ramp Detectable Warning Tiles / Truncated Domes Installation of the Detectable Warning Surface in the Curb Ramps shall be accordance to the following:

1. During all concrete pouring and tile instal lation procedures, ensu re adequate safety guidelines are in place and that they are in accordance with the applicable industry and government standards.

2. The physical characteristics of the concrete shall be consistent with the contract specifications while maintaining a slump range of 4” – 7” to permit solid placement of the

Page 177 ends

cast-in-place tile system. An overly wet mix will cause the cast-in-place system to float, therefore under these conditions suitable weights such as 2 concrete blocks or sandbags (25 lbs) shall be placed on each tile.

3. The concrete pouring and finishing operations require typical mason’s tools, however, a 2’ minimum long level with electronic slope readout, 25 lb weights, vibrator and small sledge hammer with 2” x 6” x 20” wood tamping plate are specific to the installation of the cast-in- place system.

4. The concrete shall be poured and finished, true and smooth to the required dimensions and slope prior to tile placement. Immediately after finishing the concrete, the electronic level should be used to check that the required slope is achieved. The tile shall be placed true and square to the curb edge in accordance with the contract drawings. The cast-in-place tiles shall be tamped or vibrated into the fresh concrete to ensure that the field level of tile is flush to the adjacent concrete surface.

5. While concrete is workable a steel trowel shall be used to trowel the concrete around the tile perimeter of the field level of the tile.

6. During and after the tile installation and the concrete curing stage, it is imperative that there is no walking, leaning or external force placed on the tile to rock the tile, causing a void between the underside of the tile and concrete.

7. Following tile placement, review installation tolerances to contract drawings and adjust tile before the concrete sets, 2 suitable weights of 25 lb each shal l be placed on each tile as necessary to ensure solid contact of tile underside of concrete.

8. Following the curing of the concrete, the protective plastic wrap is to be removed from the tile face by cutting the plastic with a sharp knife tight to the concre te/tile interface. If concrete bleeding occurs, a wire brush will clean the residue without damage to the tile surface.
303-5.7 Repairs and Replacements
ADD the following:

The Contractor shall be responsible to protect all new concrete work from being etched, scratched or otherwise marked following replacement thereof. If new concrete work is marked, the Contractor shall replace it at its expense and no extra costs shall be allowed.

All Curb and Gutter, Curbs, Curb Ramps, Sidewalks Medians, Driveways, Concrete Safety Strip, Gutters, Concrete Ditches, PCC Pavement for driveways, and other minor concrete shall be constructed true to the line and grade shown on the Plans.

Curb and Gutter, Curbs, Curb Ramps, Sidewalks, Medians, Driveways, Concrete Safety Strip, Gutters, Concrete Ditches, PCC Pavement for driveways, and other minor concrete will be rejected for any of the following reasons:
