My over 40-years of combined advocation, education and vocation enabled me to have a long and truly fun career learning, training, managing and leading financial and operational analyses, projects and teams. Describe your responsibilitie s and accompli shments.

My wife and I served as volunteer and non-military liaisons and advisors to, primarily, parents of the single Marines assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment (stationed at Camp Pendleton). In this role, we were responsible for advising battalion command from a parent's perspective (our son was a 2/5 Lance Corporal at the time), delivering battalion-prepared family commu nications and working with the Family Readiness Office in holding local family events and deployment preparation meetings. We were pleased to accept FRO Volunteer of the Year 2012 from Camp Pendleton's Commanding Officer and the President's Volunteer Service Award. More importantly, we were able to help Marines and their families through tvvo deployments, one of which was a seven-month Afghanistan rotation.

OHH, a 501 c3, focused on Marine families, generally but not limited to those whose Marines were on or returning from deployments. As advisors. we provided a parent's insights to the board of OHH and, through that role, became board members. We contributed to and participated in establishing and implementing OHH strategy and tactics, as well as their activities designed to facilitate Marines returning from deployment and the well-being of their families while deployed.

7. Essay
\Vhat were the major reasons that <'a used you to mm,c to La \'l•rnc'.' My wife and I moved to La Verne very early in our now 45-plus year marriage, we were looking for a place to raise a family, one that offered excellent community service. We've moved three times, all withi n city limits and have no desire to live elsewhere.

Community is important to us and we have always felt that La Verne not only promotes and supports community, it endeavors to and succeeds in ensuring its residents, like us, see and feel we belong to a small, close-knit community that benefits from being part of the larger entities of LA County, California and the United States. Importantly: we wanted to live and do live in a separately incorporated city protected by its own fire. police and community service professionals.

Jfyou could change anything in the City, what would it be? Though we live in an excellent city, I'd like to see it live within its means, while at the same time growing its economic base.

Recognizi ng these goals is made more difficult without growing our housing supply, which is not something I believe our water supply, in particular, supports.
,vhat can you contribute to and why arc you interested in serving on the ho,u·d, commission, or committee designated? My work, educat ion and interests have been dominated by financial and operatio nal management and risk management, as well as supporting analyses and positions. Global travel and the other calls on my time as an active Deloitte partner precluded my active and engaged community service. Now that I have retired from those demands, I would very much appreciate the opportun ity to add value to La Verne, my community and where my family has called home for more than 45-years.

My career was fortunately with entities with a strong sense of purpose , community, service and doing the right thing. It's time for me to apply what I've lived in the professional world in pursuit of community service.

I was in education for 37 years in the City of Baldwin Park. I served as an Instructional Aide, Teacher, Resource Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director, and Assistant Superintendent. I was responsible for supervising, evaluating, and directing many departments such as Special Education, English Learners, Dual Language, Technology, Psychologists, School Site Principals, Elementary and Secondary Programs, Textbooks, Human Resources (paper screening and
interviewing employees). I managed, trained and implemented new curriculum, state standards. report cards, new technology, professional development, to name a few. I was accountable to the School Board and to the Superintendent and several parent groups. I was responsible for managing budgets and grants. I was in charge of assisting with the preparation of the school district board agendas. As a member of the school district's Cabinet, I also prepared weekly school board updates from the departments that I supervised. I visited school sites on a daily basis, attended school site functions, ordered materials and programs and assisted with updating school board policies and purchase requisitions. I also handled parent complaints/issues and assisted with resolution. I was responsible for and assisted with the evaluation of schools through federal programs PreK - 12th grade. I conducted parent meetings, attended city council 2

meetings as needed, and trained parents on roles they held at school sites.

I have a bachelor's degree/multiple subjects teaching credential in child development from CSULA, and a master's
degree/administrative credential from CSULA. I also have a bilingual certificate of competence in Spanish.

My trainings related to community service is vast as an educator. I worked with many parent groups, with city leaders , career/job fair, I was a member of the Association of California School of Administrators and Delta Kappa Gama. I've been trained in shared decision making, transparency and servant leadership.

I moved to La Verne in 1991 when I purchased a home. I came to La Verne because when I was little, I used to travel here from Baldwin Park to visit my uncle who managed the orange groves off of Baseline. There is a street named after him, Landeros Ave., which was his last name, and it is my middle name. I have quite a few family members living in La Verne as well. I remembered how beautiful the city was and always wanted to live here. I am a dedicated person, and I give my time and energy at 100% in all I do as I did with my job when I was working. I am now retired. I have a very strong work ethic, and I love to help in any capacity possible. I am a great listener and provide quality feedback as I have had trainings in this area. I am committed to my neighborhood and to the City of La Verne. I clean up my neighborhood when needed by picking up trash on my walks and assist neighbors with anything they may need. I try to keep my shopping in La Verne whenever possible and have seen the city progress and grow tremendously. I live on the south side of the city, so I have seen a lot of growth nearby. I hire contractors who live in the city when having work done on my home. I attend Holy Name of Mary Catholic
Church and contribute and donate to their many clubs and committees. I also have helped some Bonita High School
students with preparing for college and help them with the financial aid app.

I retired in 2016. At that time, I was committed to being a caregiver for my mom. So, I dedicated 8 years to be with her until her passing in 2024. I gave myself a year to handle other obligations and now l am ready to undertake a new experience working with the city I live in. I am a positive person with lots of energy. I look forward to doing what I can to assist in any 3

What were the major
reasons that caused
you to move to La
Verne?
If you could change
anything in the City,
what would it be?
I love the city of La Verne. I enjoy my neighborhood and have developed many relationships with friends. I moved to La Verne many years ago because I remember when I was young my family would visit my uncle in the 60s/70s who lived off of Baseline. He managed the orange groves for many years. It was peaceful and very green. I always knew I wanted to be a part of this beautiful place. Other reasons are because La Verne has many restaurants, shops and mountains nearby with trails. I wanted to be closer to nature. I chose a house that I could help develop into a home with beautiful trees and flowers. I maintain my home neatly and it is pretty. While I've been in La Verne, I also attended classes on jazzerc ise, attend the yearly 4th of July parade, greet Santa at Christmas time on my street as he drives by, and participate in city activities. I so enjoy how La Verne has many traditions that have maintained for years. I have an appreciation for the Veterans Hall, the David and Margaret Youth and Family Services (of which I attended many IEP meetings for special education students), Leroy Haynes Family of Programs, and other services. I also knew moving into La Verne that it was a progressive city with lots to offer, as to why I enjoy eating and shopping in my city.

I would say the city website is fantastic and serves a great purpose. So, thank you for that. I would like to see better communication when street work is being planned. My street has been worked on a few times and at times our
neighborhood was not aware of any work to be done or when it 5

was completed. When there were notifications placed on our doors prior to work being done, on one side of the notification it was in English and the opposite side in Spanish. There were spelling errors on the Spanish side. I did correct the errors and took it to city hall so it could be corrected. Also, regarding street repairs. While I believe La Verne does a great job in streets being repaired there are still streets that are crumbling and in desperate need of repair. As the Gold Line (now renamed to the L Line) is getting ready to open I would like for those coming to our city for the first time to see that our streets are well maintained.

I did attend the city council community forum at Hillcrest on Monday, August 25th and it was very informative. I learned a lot and thank you for that.

I am a quick learner. While I have not served in a city role for the City of La Verne, I am very familiar with the City of La Verne. I am ready to give of my time, and I will handle myself professionally with any board or committee. When given a task I handle it quickly and to the best of my ability. I am good at researching and working collaboratively. I would like to be included on a committee also because I can represent the City of La Verne in a humble yet energetic manner. I am interested in learning at the city level and giving of my expertise. I want to see my city continue progressing in a positive manner and I know I can help lead. Please consider me in the capacity needed.

Above I placed a checkmark next to Planning Commision and Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. I hope that is ok for me to have chosen to be considered for one or two.

The quaint small town feel, a safe neighborhood, yet the city has the amenities of a major city.

To help increase the number of businesses within the city with services residents can use and appreciate it. I would like to offer my services that extend beyond the duties of the
Chamber of Commerce to help with this goal.

I previously served on the Measure LV committee that dealt with the additional 3/4% tax dollars to the city and helped decide how the monies should be spent for both the LVFD & LVPD. I also served on the Ad-Hoc Water & Sewer Committee and learned the true cost of water/sewer services.

\Vhat were the major reasons that rnused you to move to La Verne? One of the major reasons I chose to move to la Verne was my deep appreciation for its quiet community and peaceful neighborhoods, which provide an inviting and secure atmosphere to call home. As a parent of young children, finding an environment where they can thrive safely was paramount, and la Verne's family-friendly character was immediately appealing.

Beyond the tranquil streets and welcoming neighbors, the exceptional school district played a crucial role in my decision.

Knowing that my children would have access to quality education and supportive resources gave me confidence that their futures would be bright in this community.

Jfyou could ch:mge anything in the City, what would it be? One significant improvement for the city of la Verne would be addressing the condition of the former Sierra la Verne golf course. The abandoned site has become an eyesore and a public safety concern, attracting young people who fish and drink despite the presence of wild animals. Rather than allowing further decline, the area should be repurposed as a community park with safe walking paths, designated wildlife habitats, and functional recreation spaces. Such redevelop ment would enhance both public safety and the city's overall aesthetic, ensuring the land serves as a valuable resource for residents. \\'hat can you contribute to and why arc you interested in scn1ing on the board, commission, or committee designated'! Drawing from my extensive experience in strategic planning, wildfire mitigation, and engineering, l believe I can offer valuable insights and leadership to the la Verne board or commission. My background in developing and leading high-stakes projects, such as SCE's Integrated Wildfire Mitigation Strategy and the Chino Hills 500 kV Underground Project, has equipped me with the skills necessary to address complex challenges and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

I am deeply interested in serving because I consider la Verne a place I can call home for myself and my family forever. I am passionate about helping the city flourish and maintaining it as a great community for families, ensuring it remains a welcoming, vibrant, and safe environment for all residents. \Vh:tt is your availabilit~· to -~~r'l'c on a Committee? My wife. To be honest I had never heard of La Verne until we started looking for a place to call home. Balboa Island was getting to crowded. So we saw new homes for sale and we took a drive to see the models. I have never looked back. Small town feel. Nice neighbors and Santa on Christmas day
Bring back how Santa would go on every street and the elves gave out goody bags. I love seeing new homes being built. The city can not stagnate and must evolve,
I feel not enough people get involve. They love to complain but do nothing to contribute. I want to contribute
no constraints. When ever I am needed. I am planning on retiring in Dec, than substitut e yeach for Bonita unified Field not completed.

I have lived in the city of La Verne for the majority of my life. I grew up here with my family and had attended local private schools within the city. After high school and some college, I was fortunate enough to open a successful business here with family and prospered for over 18yrs. After a short stent of relocating my primary residency, my wife and I decided to come back and live in full time in La Verne and purchased my childhood home and have been here ever since. I have had the privilege of now raising my 3 kids here and have no plans of leaving this great community.

If you could change I would love to see a few more trees and better anything in the City, pedestrian/bicycle street access on public roads. what would it be?
What can you When I was a small business owner, I had no extra time to contribute to and why dedicate to serving and supporting my local community other are you interested in than financial donations. \\'hat were the ma_jor rc.1sons that c.1use1l you to move to La Verne'! I moved to La Verne in 1998 because we needed a larger home for our growing family and we felt it was a good place to live and raise children. We valued the fact that La Verne was knows to have "good public schools" as well as other activities. We have not been disappointed.

If you could ch:rni,?;e anything in the City, what would it be·! I think La Verne is a wonderful place to live. One change I would like to see, however, is more consistent enforcement of city codes and rules. My biggest concern is the growing number of youth recklessly riding electric bicycles and scooters, often without helmets. I have personally seen them pose a danger to both drivers and pedestrians while walking along Esperanza, Emerald, and Wheeler. I worry that it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured in a collision, like the recent tragic incident in Huntington Beach. But this also extends to lack of enforcement of Building Codes , Parking Enforcement, free standing basketball hoops being left in the street for extended periods of time.

What can you contribute to and why arc you interested in sen·ing on the board, commission, or committee designated'! I am very collaborative. Like a previously stated I have a lot of experience attending activities sponsored by the recreation department and utilizing many modes of transportation in La Verne. 1 have a lot of practical experience and would like to have as many citizens utilize the Recreation Department Activities and Facilities. I would like to continue to improve the streets for drivers and cyclists, as well as provide as many forms of transportation for Citizens as possible.

I went to college at the University of Laverne and always enjoyed the community. I liked the community feeling and the fact that the city was so well kept. The fact that there was a good network of transportation and medical facilities available was a plus.

I think that there should be more communication with the citizens, more visibility with the elected city officials. Regarding services for seniors, there should be more than the seasonal newsletter mailed to the homes. I attend an exercise class at the community center and so I pick up some of the papers that announce activities but often by the time I read them the activities are full.

Although I have not served on any committees for Laverne, I have held many positions in leadership over my career in both work experience and organizations. I feel like I have a lot to offer because I am living the senior experience now and know that I am constantly feeling that there is so much more I could be doing to make the lives of the seniors in the community enjoy a fuller life.

I am available now.

August13,2025
I have experience in administration, finance, and grants. During my doctorate work atthe University of La Verne I experienced working with city governments. One was a review of what was a revenue stream from sweeping the streets for several cities near La Verne. The city was written up in a publication devoted to western states government . They were commended for the sweeping project but after a review by myself and my colleagues, we found that they were creating a deficit. They had failed to include all the costs involved in the operation.

Another was a city in Northern California that was trying to re-invent their town. Their population was declining along with the stores and services. The mayor and his spouse were invited to spend a weekend with us at the university, where we presented ideas and options for renewing their city.

I spent over 45 years in research administration at Caltech, in Pasadena. Then another 9 years at Pitzer College assisting with grant preparation and administration.

I have taught business courses at East Los Angeles College for the last 28 years as an adjunct faculty member.

I feel that my experience would be an asset to the City of La Verne committees.

I bring nearly 20 years of experience in public service, with a strong background in local government and a deep
commitment to community development. My career began in Parks and Recreation, where I worked as a Recreation Leader, directly serving residents and supporting programs that foster community engagement and wellness.

I also spent time as a Detention Services Officer for Los Angeles County, which gave me valuable insight into public safety and the importance of structured, community-centered systems.

For the past 15 years, my focus has been in Planning and Community Development, where I have served as a Code
Enforcement Officer, working closely with residents,
businesses, and city staff to uphold community standards and support safe, well-mainta ined neighborhoods. Currently, I serve as the Assistant Director of Planning and Community
Development, where I help manage a range of key city
functions, including housing, planning, building and safety, and economic development.

These roles have provided me with a well-rounded

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from California State University , Fullerton, and a Master's degree in Public Administration from California Baptist University. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in government operations, policy development , and public service leadership.

In addition to my formal education, I am a Certified Code Enforcement Officer and have completed national emergency response certifications . which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in both everyday municipal functions and emergency situations. This

What were the major
reasons that caused
you to move to La
Verne?
If you could change
anything in the City,
what would it be?
When my family and I made the decision to move, we were intentional about finding a place that aligned with the values we hold most dear-community, safety, education, and a strong sense of belonging. After careful consideration, La Verne stood out as the ideal place to plant roots and raise our young children.

One of the most important factors was the city's reputation for being a safe and family-friendly environment. As parents, nothing matters more than knowing our children can grow up in a community where they are protected, supported, and
surrounded by positive influences. La Verne's low crime rates and well-maintained neighborhoods gave us peace of mind and confidence in our decision.

Equally important was the quality of the local schools.

Education is a top priority for our family, and La Verne's strong public school system-supported by engaged teachers, active parent involvement, and a commitment to student success was a major draw. We wanted our children to have access to not just strong academics, but also a nurturing environment where they could thrive both intellectually and socially.

What truly set La Verne apart, however, was its tight-knit community feel. From the friendly neighbors to the city's fam ily oriented events and local traditions, we could sense a spirit of connection that is becoming increasingly rare. We were looking for more than just a house-we were looking for a place where we could truly belong, contribute, and grow alongside others who share a commitment to community.

La Verne offered all of that and more. The warmth, character, and sense of civic pride we've experienced since moving here have only confirmed that we made the right choice for our family.

La Verne is a prime destination for families and individuals alike, thanks to its low crime rate, excellent schools, and strong sense of community. That said, like many cities, La Verne faces challenges such as vacant storefronts and visible homelessness in certain areas. If selected to serve, I would advocate for smart, balanced development that attracts and retains local businesses, while also supporting thoughtful, compassionate enforcement strategies to address
homelessness. Proactive planning and collaboration will be key to preserving the city's character while ensuring continued vitality and inclusivity.

I am interested in serving on a City of La Verne commission because I am passionate about giving back to the community I call home and believe my professional background can provide meaningful contributions. With nearly 20 years in government, including roles as a Parks and Recreation Leader, Detention Services Officer, and currently as the Assistant Director of Planning and Community Development, I bring a broad and practical understanding of how local government functions.

This experience uniquely positions me to serve effectively in a commission role. I understand the importance of balancing community needs with policy, and I can offer thoughtful, informed input while also working collaboratively with city staff.

My goal is to help ensure decisions are well-rounded,
actionable, and aligned with La Verne's long-term vision.

If selected I would ensure I am available for
commission/commitee meetings.

\\'hat were the major reasons that caused you to moH to La Verne? Growing up in a nearby city, I frequently visited La Verne for its shopping and dining options. When it came time to set down more permanent roots, La Verne's affordability without comprom ising safety was a major reason for moving here. lf~•ou could change anything in the Ci~•, what would it he? I would like to see greater engagement from residents of all backgrounds in city decision-making. Encouraging participat ion from people of diverse experiences and perspectives helps ensure that city policies, programs, and initiatives reflect the needs of the entire community.

What can you contribute to and wh~· arc you interested in scn·ing on lhc board. commission. or committee designated? I am eager to contribute my experience in strategy management and cross-functional collaboration to support the city's initiatives. Having recently served on the Ad Hoc Water & Sewer Rate Study Committee, I gained valuable insight into city operations, financial planning, and community engagement. I am particularly interested in serving on the Finance Commission and the Active Transportation & Infrastructure Committee because I am committed to promoting fiscal responsibility, long-term planning, and safe, sustainable, and accessible infrastructure that benefits all residents and businesses in La Verne. \.Vh:H is your :•~·ailability to serve on a Committee?
Most evenings work well for me, and I'm happy to adjust my schedule as needed to support the committee's work.

None
Asked to do nothing and my late wife and I found them to be very arrogant.

Make it easy for business to move to and stay in our city. The new commuter train will bring more people to our city albeit sometimes brief. Downtown needs to be vibrant. Reinstate Christmas giveaways as our kids really enjoyed the handouts.

I spent 32 years in sales finance and can understand balance sheets and know how to add 2+2 without a calculator. Lots of negative headwinds on the horizon as far as city revenues. The more ideas the better.

What were the major
reasons that caused
you to move to La
Verne?
If you could change
anything in the City,
what would it be?
Reviewed the General Plan, Section Updates, and work with other GPAC members and De Novo to complete this milestone document.

My family has been in La Verne since 1979. I grew up in La Verne and attended school here from preschool through high school and then returned after college and marriage to raise my family. Our community and the quality of life that we maintain within our community is unique in the Los Angeles area and it is the product of consistent attention by the leaders of our community. From the school districts to the fire department, at the park or in the supermarket, watching a parade or attending a Christmas service; La Verne provides a feeling of belonging and security that every resident
understands and appreciates. During my lifetime here I have had a lot of new neighbors. Most of the time these neighbors come from another city or state. Regardless of where they come from, each and every one has said to me "wow, we really are lucky to be here" and I could not agree more.

I would love to see a better source of Tax revenue for the City.

Big box has deflated in the last decade and we have no good tax revenue at the city to support our local government. The development of the Arrow Corridor and the north side of the fairplex is a possible future but with the drag races and the airport there are a lot of hurdles. Other than that, I think the better question is what would you preserve. State mandates are changing the face of CA. It is important that we protect the quality of life in this city while working within the constantly changing regulations being passed down from the state.
----- -------- ---·- - --- -------·------------
What can you
contribute to and why
are you interested in
serving on the board,
commission, or
committee designated?
I have spent the last decade learning and participating consistently in the development of our City. I have formed educated opinions and can make critical decisions based on experience. I am interested in these commissions because I care about La Verne and want to foster the spirit of the City I have called home my entire life by performing my civil duty to my community.

Radiation safety officer for the university as part of state regulations for handling radioactive material. Responsible for regular safety checks, institutional compliance, training, and other areas related to radiation work and safety. Also currently chair of the Radiation Safety Committee, which I have been since 2019. "'hat wt:re the major reasons that caused you to movt: lo La Verne'! We particularly wanted to live in La Verne because it allows us to live a more sustainable life and connect with the community.

A key factor was that I could bike to work and my spouse could take the future Gold Line to work, as he already commutes partially on the Gold Line. Additionally, this area allows us to walk or bicycle to parks, shops, good schools, restaurants, and spend more time outdoors. lt took us 3 years to secure a house here and we are so happy with how much we are able to bike and walk.

If you cnulcl change an~•·thing in the City, what would it be'? Although La Verne already has quite good infrastructure for bicycling and walking, one change would be to make walking and biking in the city safer and more accessible for everyone.

This could include reducing speeding on residential streets and near schools, enhancing curb cuts for people with disabilities and strollers, additional curb striping, more bike racks, and creating more connected bicycle lanes/paths.

Whal· can you contribute to and why arc you interested in scrl'ing on the board, commission, or committee drsignated? I was thrilled to be on the Active Transportation Committee from 2023-2025 and I would love to continue serving the City in the newly formed committee. I appreciated being able to contribute to City improvements and to provide insights towards the use and needs of families using active transportation infrastructure. I commute ~18 miles daily by bike with 2 kids under 7 and make regular use of the City's current infrastructure. We go on daily walks with 2 kids, and I've been impressed with the city's current efforts to improve our streets, including adding curb cuts and responding to feedback from the committee. I have experience in grant writing and have secured over $6.8 million dollars in research grants. I could contribute to the goal of improving transportation in our city by exploring grant writing opportunities. My goal is to ensure that everyone can safely travel throughout our great city and I hope to be able to continue to serve on the newly formed committee.

What is your arnil:1bility to sen·c on a Committee?
Weekday evenings after 4 pm or weekday mornings 8-9 am are best, but I could likely arrange my work schedule to be there for quarterly meetings even during typical business hours.

\\'hat were the major reasons that caused ~'ou to mo\'C to La Verne'! I was raised in Southern California and have lived in several communities over the years, including East Los Angeles, San Gabriel, Oceanside , San Juan Capistrano, and eventually La Verne. I also spent a few years living in California's Central Valley. Throughout my life, I've always admired the foothill communities of the San Gabriel Valley. When both career and family needs brought my husband and me back to this region, La Verne quickly stood out as the ideal place to call home. At the time, it was affordable , but more importantly, it offered a warm, small-town atmosphere that set it apart from the busier urban areas nearby. Since moving here, we've grown to deeply love this commun ity and plan to remain here for the rest of our lives. It's important to me that La Verne continues to thrive and retain the qualities that make it such a special place to live.

If you could change anyth ing in the City, what would it be'!

1. Development of the Sierra La Verne golf course property with community serving uses.

2. More event venues.

3. Additional "fine" dining restaurants

4. Businesses that can bring in additional sales tax revenues

3. A museum highlighting the history of La Verne

What can you contribute to and why arc you interes ted in serving on the board, commission , or {'ommittcc designated? As a twenty-two-year resident of the City of La Verne, I am seeking the opportunity to serve on the Planning Commission to contribute meaningfully to the city's growth, sustainability, and quality of life. I believe my professional and volunteer experiences-particularly in chamber of commerce management and nonprofit service have prepared me to be an effective and thoughtful member of the Commission.

Through my work in chamber of commerce management. I've developed an understanding of local economic development, small business needs, and community partnerships . This experience has given me insight into the importance of balanced planning that results in economic vitality while preserving the unique character and charm of our city. My experience over the years has allowed me to see first-hand how land use decisions and zoning policies can impact business growth, housing, traffic, and quality of life.

My volunteer work with nonprofit organizations has further strengthened my commitment to serving the public interest and engaging diverse opinions in the decision-mak ing process. Through my exper ience working with several non-profit organizations , I have always focused on building stronger communities. As a Planning Commissioner, I would strive to make decisions that are fair, forward-thinking, and community-driven.

I am drawn to this role because it offers the opportunity to help guide the city's development in a way that reflects both La Verne's heritage and its potential. My legal studies provide me with an understanding of regulatory frameworks , zoning laws, and governance processes, while my business and finance background allows me to assess fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and growth potential of projects.

Having previously served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of La Verne, I bring not only education and professional expertise but also direct, hands-on experience with the commission's responsibilities. My prior service gave me practical insight into land use decisions, zoning regulations, public hearings, and the importance of balancing growth with the preservation of community character.

That experience continues to qualify me for the position because I already understand the commission's procedures, the expectations of transparency and fairness, and the need to weigh the perspectives of residents, developers, and city staff. Planning Commission Essay Attached
7-1 My Wife (then fiance ) were looking to find a full service city with highly rated public schools. We were also looking for a California Bungalow or Craftsman home to restore and start our lives together in. Almost 15 years later we love living in a charming old house that we have breathed new life into. That new life includes our two kids who attend Roynon Elementary, play sports in our local parks, walk our dog to fiends houses in the neighborhood , and feels safe and supported along the way. We love our community and are excited to see what the next 15 years look like here in La Verne.
7-2
Many of the difficulties faced by the City of La Verne and it's residents are due to a lack of revenue. La Verne needs to capitalize on our strong foundation and work to further develop our business community, all the while maintaining the balance of preserving our small town charm and open spaces. The coming Metro A Line Extension must become a bridge between the Arrow corridor and ULV/Downtown Lordsburg . Increasing patronage via foot, bicycle and A Line to downtown will increase the success of our current small businesses and bring in new ones in a symbiotic fashion. The Arrow commercial/industrial corridor as well as 1st St. needs some serious attention. Our lack of hotels and affordable housing so close to the Fairplex, Brackett Airport, and the University of La Verne is a missed opportunity. I am excited to see these areas move forward.

With shifts towards online sales and a changing economy, our Foothill corridor has a handful of older commercial strips and parks that have not held their anchor stores, therefore losing their ability to sustain other small retail and restaurants. This is not a unique problem faced by La Verne. Many communities have begun developing these spaces to residential over commercial/mixed use developments. These developments can provide additional affordable housing and become more attractive to small businesses with future patrons living upstairs.

La Verne is already a wonderful place to call home and do business in, however it has the potential to grow all the while preserving the intimate nuance that makes our city the community of neighbors that it is.
7-3
What can you contribute to and why are you interested in serving on the Commission/ Committee designated?
First and foremost I want to serve my community and ensure La Verne continues to be the community that families want to raise their children in amongst a close knit group of neighbors and businesses. In doing so, I will bring a unique perspective that has been shaped by a multitude of my life experiences including , small business ownership , public safety, economical and environmental sustainability , construction, architecture, and historic preservation.

As a small business owner, I successfully worked to have zoning regulations updated to include my area of business. Having grown up around the building trades, I was able to complete the construction of my business and tenant improvements personally. After a decade in the music industry, I became a professional firefighter . Commercial and brush fire prevention , inspections are a large part of my full time job today. As a Captain for my department , I oversea all pre-fire plans for the city. All development has an impact on the way our first responders provide service . Understanding these changes can have positive or negative impacts on our city's ability to keep our residents safe is critical. I believe looking at planning and development

Page 254 of 281 ends

Agenda Packet - September 15, 2025
through the eyes of residents, business owners, and city employees, lends itself to establishing a balanced approach .

Since moving to La Verne in 2013, I have been restoring my 1922 California Bungalow on Bonita Ave. I have worked with La Verne's city staff on multiple projects as an owner builder and historic home owner. I've been through multiple plan checks and building inspections . I was one of the first people to permit and complete an owner builder grid-tied solar system in the City of la Verne. Throughout my renovation I have ensured my home has kept with the Genera l Plan for the Historic Lordsburg tract. I have embraced the historic architecture all the while rebuilt my house be be ecologically responsible. Working with La Verne city staff and the La Verne Historical Society recently culminated in successfully obtaining a Mills Act designation of my house.

Planning commission would allow me to contribute to the community my wife and I are so happy to be raising our kids in. Preserving our community does not require fear or the dismissal of progress. In my experience , preservation takes proactive work and foresight. I believe La Verne requires one to understand the balance of progress, historic preservation , and quality of life. Time will continue to move our city down the river of life and I wish to be holding one of the oars along the way. If given the opportunity I will serve with a pragmatic approach that looks to both protect and invest in the future of our city. Thank you for your consideration.

2. Wo r k Experience
Describe your duties
For the last 28 years I've been employed by Nordstrom, I work as the BackOffice personnel. In my pass experience my positions were as Asst. Managers for a clothing retail store and an Asst. Manager for a music store who are no longer in business.

3. Education and Training
Please comment on education and training as it may relate to your application for community service I have no actual experience in community service, however I was a participant in the City of La Verne's Citizen's Academy Class #12 in 2002; two years after I moved to La Verne. The class gave the citizens an in-depth knowledge of the city's organization and 7 years later my husband too took the class -his was class #20.

My education : I graduated from MtSac with 2 Associate Degree 1 in Fashion Design & Technology and my second in Fashion Merchandising. I have volunteer for political candidates by calling potential voters, hand wrote hundreds of letters to encourage individuals to go out and vote. In conclusion, by applying and hopefully joining the commission will give me future experience, this is how I believe volunteering residents gain experience by stepping up to serve their community.

4. Additional Information
llse this space to provide additional information as required or to describe in greater detail any aspects of your experience or activities that arc pertinent.

All my volunteer activities are relevant to wanting to get involved and serve my community. From contributing my time with Friends of the 4th motorcycle group years ago and being a parade monitor during those years with Tim Morrison at our 4th of July parades -good times! I devoted years in helping train dogs from our surrounding communities with Kelly's K9 College - Kelly and James have since retired and move to Idaho. Today both me and my husband are entrusted with caring for many foster dogs with Helping Herder Rescue by training those rescues dogs to be able to find their forever homes.
