2. Civic Engagement & "Rancho Cordova First" Curriculum In direct alignment with Measures H and R, "The Cordova Spark" is rooted in local pride. The curriculum is uniquely Rancho Cordova-specific. The Mission: Using program-issued Chromebooks, student teams identify a specific city service—such as park maintenance, traffic safety, or waste management—and develop a robotic or digital solution to enhance it. The Benefit: By the end of the program, 32 young residents will move from being passive technology consumers to active civic contributors with a deep understanding of local government and awareness of their own city.

3. Strategic Execution: The Summer Intensive Model
We have optimized this pilot to be a high-ROI, low-overhead engagement:

The "Summer Sprint": To bypass the "Saturday Sports Wall" and schoolyear constraints, we operate a one-week intensive (up to 4 hours per day).

This focused format ensures 100% project completion and high energy, making it an ideal "Spike" project for our college-bound leaders.

Tangible Assets: This grant builds a Civic Tech Lending Library. The 10 Lego CS/AI kits and 10 Chromebooks (including dedicated sets for instructor demonstration) remain the property of the local robotics ecosystem, managed by the Metal Maniacs to serve future cohorts.

Sustainability: This pilot creates a "Playbook" for future student leaders.

The student leaders will train additional younger high school grade students to "Shadow Mentors" during the week, ensuring the City’s investment results in a repeatable, annual summer asset for Rancho Cordova.

Team
The Team Behind the Spark: Metal Maniacs #20163
The development and delivery of The Cordova Spark are led by a elite cohort of 11th & 12th grade student leaders from Metal Maniacs #20163, an Award Winning FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team at Championship, based right here in our community.

Proven Leadership & Advocacy
Our project leads are trained advocates. Having represented Rancho Cordova, Orangevale, Sacramento, and Folsom at the National Advocacy Conference (NAC) in D.C. & CA Student Association for STEM Advocacy, these leaders have spent years meeting with lawmakers local, state, and federal to champion STEM & Robotics education.

Project/Program
Goals
"The Cordova Spark" targets three core objectives to ensure a high-impact pilot:

Technical Proficiency: Empowering up to 32 students with AI/CS logic.

Metric: 100% of teams (8 teams of 4) successfully program AI sensors to solve a simulated task.

Civic Leadership: Applying advocacy training to local city needs. Metric: 8 "Civic Pitches" presented by students to City of Rancho Cordova officials during our final Festival.

Sustainable Legacy: Establishing a permanent tech library. Metric:

Completion of a Mentor Playbook and successful training of 9th-10th grade "Shadow Mentors" for Year 2.

To maintain focus, we utilize a "1-Week Summer Sprint" model. This highintensity format eliminates scheduling drift and maintains peak student engagement.

Thank you for your interest in applying to the City of Rancho Cordova's Community Enhancement & Investment Fund. Applications are open from February 9, 2026, to March 13, 2026, Noon (12:00 p.m.) with a specific deadline of March 6th Noon (12:00 p.m.) for certain applications**. Before you begin, please read the notes about deadlines and certain types of grant applications/grants below. **School/Park Application Deadline **Note that projects or programs involving a park or school district have a deadline of March 6 Noon (12:00 p.m.) to allow for the third-party endorsement process by the grant deadline.** A Note about Religious Schools and the Application/Grant Process **Note for grant applications from religious schools. The United States Supreme Court has recently ruled in part that:
“denying a generally available benefit [from government] solely on account of religious identity imposes a penalty on the free exercise of religion that can be justified only by a state interest of the highest order.” The City is of the opinion that not all grants to religious schools are prohibited under this and other similar rulings. However, these United States Supreme Court decisions remain in conflict with a section of the California State Constitution that says: “[n]either the Legislature, nor any county, city and county, township, school district, or other municipal corporation, shall ever make an appropriation, or pay from any public fund whatever, or grant anything to or in aid of any religious sect, church, creed, or sectarian purpose, or help to support or sustain any school, college, university, hospital, or other institution controlled by any religious creed, church, or sectarian denomination whatever; nor shall any grant or donation of personal property or real estate ever be made by the state, or any city, city and county, town, or other municipal corporation for any religious creed, church, or sectarian purpose whatever”. The City will accept applications for grants of these City public funds from religious schools, but will have language in the grant agreements to address the possibility and consequences of legal challenges and new court decisions on this and related topics. ** Future Grant Opportunities If you are interested in remaining up-to-date on available grants from the City of Rancho Cordova, click here to sign up for the Grants Interest List. A separate call for programming opportunities with the Rancho Cordova Youth Center is anticipated later in 2026. The list is also used to advertise separate art programs when funds are available.
Synopsis
Through the NextGen Summer Workforce Exploration, SAC Connect will take underrepresented low-income youth ages 13-17 through a work readiness and early career exposure experience which is essential to this demographic as they shift career opportunities, identity, and long-term outcomes.

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
SAC Connect was established in 2018 by two African American Licensed Clinical Social Workers with a shared commitment to improving mental health access and advancing wellness equity for youth and young adults.

The organization was founded in response to persistent disparities in behavioral health services, particularly within low-income and historically underserved communities.

SAC Connect is governed by a diverse Board of Directors that reflects the communities it serves, including an African American female President, African American male Vice President, Asian American Secretary, two African American board members, and a White Treasurer. This diverse leadership structure strengthens the organization’s cultural responsiveness and community accountability.

The mission of SAC Connect is to increase access to mental and behavioral health opportunities, programs, and services for youth, young adults, and families. The organization provides services throughout Sacramento County, with a primary focus on low-income communities and communities of color.

SAC Connect operates a range of community-based and school-based initiatives, including:

School-based youth wellness groups
Monthly community wellness events
Support services for homeless and displaced individuals and families Professional development trainings and workshops
Job readiness workshops and paid internship placements
Public awareness campaigns
Community outreach and engagement initiatives

Through culturally responsive programming and community-rooted engagement, SAC Connect continues to advance equitable access to mental health support, workforce development, and prevention services across Sacramento County. The NextGen Summer Workforce Exploration program is intentionally designed for youth who often face limited access to professional networks, career exposure, and paid skill-building opportunities. During a 8-10 week summer session, participants will engage in comprehensive work readiness training combined with hands-on career exploration activities that introduce them to diverse industries and postsecondary pathways.

Program Components

1. Work Readiness Training
Youth will participate in interactive workshops focused on:

Resume development
Interview preparation
Workplace communication and professionalism
Teamwork and leadership skills
Financial literacy and responsible money management
Goal setting and career planning

2. Early Career Exposure
Participants will gain exposure to a variety of career pathways through:

Industry guest speakers
Employer site visits
Career panels featuring diverse professionals
Entrepreneurship exploration
Exposure to public service, health, fitness, business, and technology sectors

3. Experiential Learning Opportunities
Youth will engage in project-based learning and simulated workplace experiences that allow them to practice professional skills in real-world contexts. Opportunities may include:

Youth leadership roles within SAC Connect programming
Community-based service learning projects
Team-based problem-solving challenges
Junior mentorship and peer leadership development

4. Social-Emotional & Identity Development
Recognizing that workforce readiness includes mindset development, the program integrates:

Confidence-building activities
Strength-based coaching
Growth mindset training
Exposure to professionals who reflect participants’ backgrounds Underrepresented, low-income youth often lack early exposure to structured workforce development experiences that build both social capital ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

and professional identity. Without access to mentorship, networks, and career guidance, many young people make decisions based on limited information and opportunity.

The NextGen Summer Workforce Exploration addresses this gap by:

Expanding awareness of viable career pathways
Building foundational employability skills before high school graduation Increasing confidence and professional identity formation Reducing summer learning loss and idle time
Creating equitable access to opportunity
Early exposure to workforce environments during adolescence has been shown to increase educational persistence, long-term earning potential, and civic engagement.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
NextGen Summer Workforce Exploration curriculum was developed by two licensed clinical social workers with an abundance of educational and professional experience in equitable service delivery, youth development and programs, culturally and trauma informed practices and community engagement. Under this leadership, SAC Connect group facilitators and peer mentors have delivered school based wellness groups, community based youth workforce groups, community based substance prevention groups, Art-therapy groups, and more since 2018 and in three school districts. Additionally, SAC Connect staff are representative of the underserved population and either are in high school, have completed high school, or completed post-secondary degrees.

Synopsis

Description
We already have the basic infrastructure in place for the project.

Step 1:The Utsav Youth board members ( 7 members ) along with their team of adult and youth volunteers will meet to discuss and plan the event in early April. The event will be held in August 2026.

Step 2: We will quickly identify and contact different adult Utsav members from each profession and take a vote on their availability on two or three different dates in August. Then a date will be set, and a hall will be booked in Rancho Cordova (with a capacity of up to 300).

Step 3: Each professional (for example nurses, doctors, small business owners, or AI experts, engineers, artists, and musicians) will be assigned a table at the venue and 1-2 youth volunteers will assist him/her. They will have 2 months to prepare flyers and educational material which will be in the form of hard copies as well as in electronic media that can be distributed. They will prepare PowerPoint presentations for the layman public in an easily understandable format. All the flyers will have instructions for registering for this FREE public event.

Step 4:Publicize our event through:

1. Sending flyers to all the middle and high schools in Rancho Cordova

2. Facebook

3. Instagram,

4. Sending it to the parent’s group in each school.

5. Putting up flyers in local grocery stores.

6. Publicizing through the Rancho Cordova chat group, and Orangevale chat group on Facebook.

7. We will distribute it to our members through email (we have 200 email addresses in our member database).

ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 1439 of 1509 ends

8. Provide an electronic link, and different options to register for the event.

Step 5: On the day of the event, different booths will be set up at the venue.

1. Each booth will be showcasing a different profession. Adult professionals will have PowerPoints for layman public and students, answer their questions, and hand out resource materials that are needed at the school level to pursue that career.

2. Women in Science booth’: there will be a special booth to encourage ‘female students to choose a STEM career.

3. Peer tutoring booth’: One booth will have volunteer students who will offer peer tutoring opportunities, specifically English language tutoring, science, and math tutoring

4. ‘Meet the counselor booth’: There will be a booth with 2 College admission counselors who will answer questions (we have contacted 2 counselors already).

5. We will give each registrant a pencil and paper to fill out the forms and questionnaires asking for feedback. Once they attend a booth they will get a stamp after they get all the stamps from the different booths, they will get a free snack and a chance to win 10 door prizes (small gifts not more than 10).

6. Prepare a report detailing the event, specifically, the level of attendance, community feedback, and areas of improvement. We will read the questionnaires and feedback forms and discuss the outcomes.

Community involvement:

1. We expect that we will have 300-400 attendees in a one-day event (3- 4 hours) by holding it in the community or city hall in Rancho Cordova.

Residents may come and go as they like. The event will be free and open to the public. Over 4-5 years hundreds of students will be benefited.

2. The populations which will be directly affected are middle school students, high school students, young graduates, or undergraduates.

These events are not usually available to younger Rancho Cordova residents and if at all, they usually charge high registration fees to attend.

3. Our special ‘Women in Science’ booth expects to motivate many female students as well.

4. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds will also benefit the most as they normally do not have access to these free resources through school or the community.

5. Many youths in Rancho Cordova do not have access to shadowing big companies or shadowing physicians or other offices. Therefore they are not exposed to potential career opportunities. Thus this project will provide a community learning hub that provides individuals and students with access to technology, and academic support, and connects them to free tutors, and mentors.

6. Students looking for free tutoring will be benefited. our volunteers will establish contact to offer free tutoring and homework help to students ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

of RC. Our volunteers are academic students.

Monitoring Progress: The initial 2023 seed grant has helped us identify community needs. After the first event, we have

1. Looked at the attendance and feedback from individuals.

2. In 2026, we will give attendees a questionnaire asking how we can make it more effective .

3. We will hold follow-up meetings with youth tutors.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
Youth Team: The Utsav Youth board members ( 7 members ) along with their team of adult and youth volunteers (10 members) (please see our organization’s website https://www.utsavsac.org).

Adult Team: We already have adult members from each profession. Each professional (nurses, doctors, small business owners, or AI experts, engineers, artists) will be assigned a booth and youth volunteers will assist them. They will have 2 months to prepare educational material in the form of hard copies and electronic media that can be distributed. They will prepare presentations for the layman public. Flyers will have QR codes to registering for FREE.

Project/Program
Goals
Response:

Overall Goal: Our 2026 goal is to accelerate educational progress in Rancho Cordova youths by implementing and enhancement of community support, and making educational and career choice resources accessible to them for free. Our 25 year-old organization consists of around 200 volunteer members who are successful business owners, real estate agents, physicians, scientists, financial consultants, nurses, AI and IT professionals, as well as owners of small businesses such as catering, garments, secretarial support, etc. A large portion of our members live in the city of Rancho Cordova (RC). They are ready to volunteer their time for this project. We are also proud to have a 45 member Youth Empowerment Wing (please visit the youth volunteer section of our website https://www.utsavsac.org).

We had successfully organized a youth career expo in October 2023, funded by the Rancho Cordova City Enhancement grant of $5000. We are planning to organize another carrier expo as demanded by our youth as the 2023 program was a huge success.

Specific goal 1: Encourage the students to think about a STEM career (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as well as in Arts( music, dance, theater etc). This can be achieved by bringing various professionals to showcase their profession under one roof. Our local educators, entrepreneurs, professionals, and artists will be telling what their career is all about to the students in layman's language and using digital media.

Specific goal 2: Provide an opportunity for the youth to interact with professionals directly (which they miss specially in under funded schools).

This will allow the youth/students to learn about a variety of possible career choices, ask questions, and get access to the resources to pursue that career option.

Specific goal 3: Improve students’ college eligibility. To establish a network by connecting students to peer mentors or adult mentors within the community for getting free tutoring and help to drive them towards a STEM career. Our members are the free human resources available in our community by which students can get academic support outside of school.

Specific goal 4: Encourage female students to choose a STEM career.

Rancho Cordova is a vibrant multi-ethnic population, and often girls do not get the same resources as boys.

Synopsis
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area (BBBS-GSA) is proposing the Pathways to Potential Mentoring Program, an evidencebased mentoring initiative that will expand access to high-quality community-based and school-based mentoring for Rancho Cordova youth ages 6-21 who face social, academic, and emotional barriers to success.

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
BBBS-GSA's Pathways to Potential Mentoring Program directly aligns with the City’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund’s Youth & Program Services category, contributing to the growth and development of children and youth in City of Rancho Cordova.

Children and youth across our service area face compounding challenges related to poverty, social isolation, academic disengagement, and unmet mental and behavioral health needs. The City of Rancho Cordova is home to over 85,000 residents, with 25% under the age of 18. Per data collected by Kidsdata.org, 15.3% of Rancho Cordova children live in poverty, 29.1% live in low-income households, and 35.3% live in single-parent households.

A significant proportion of youth served by BBBS-GSA come from lowincome households, single-parent families, or experience instability related to housing, food security, or exposure to Adverse Childhood Experiences.

In 2021 and 2023, the US Surgeon General issued a national state of emergency in child and adolescent mental health. Despite this growing challenge, access to consistent, trusted adult support remains limited, particularly for youth in under-resourced communities.

Research consistently demonstrates that long-term, relationship-based mentoring is one of the most effective protective factors for mitigating these risks. A study by MENTOR found that mentored youth, when compared to their unmentored peers, are more likely to be on the honor roll and planning for college enrollment, in leadership positions and participating in clubs and sports at school and engaged in volunteer activities in the community. Multiple studies have found that mentoring reduces depressive symptoms and can improve self-esteem and social relationships for youth with mental health challenges.

Pathways to Potential is an evidence-based mentoring initiative that ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 1459 of 1509 ends

expands access to high-quality community-based and school-based mentoring for youth ages 6-21 who face social, academic, and emotional barriers to success. The program matches and adapts each mentoring relationship according to the specific needs of the child/mentee (Little) and require that each volunteer mentor (Big) commits to a minimum of one year to help in establishing trust and consistency with their Little. Bigs and Littles meet 2-4 times per month, engaging in simple yet meaningful activities. Sometimes they will connect to engage in sports activities or experience something new together, while other times they may focus on career exploration and schoolwork. These moments, big and small, create lasting impacts that shape the lives of both the child and the mentor in ways beyond measure.

The purpose of this program is to strengthen the social-emotional wellbeing, academic engagement, and long-term goal-setting capacity of participating youth by providing them with a trusted adult role model who offers encouragement, guidance, and accountability. While some mentormentee matches may focus on career exploration or workforce readiness, and others may center around pursuing higher education with guidance through the application process, all of our programming is grounded in holistic supportive services. As such, all mentees and families have access to wraparound supports from other community partners and schools, including mental health services, basic needs and educational supports. This dual approach that incorporates long-term mentorship paired with targeted wraparound services ensures that youth most exposed to outside barriers have the tools, relationships, and resilience to build a safe and promising future.

Core objectives include:
- 1:1 Mentoring Matches: Youth (“Littles”) are paired with screened, trained adult mentors (“Bigs”) for consistent, long-term relationships lasting a minimum of 12 months.
- Community-Based Mentoring: Matches meet regularly in community settings to build trust, social-emotional skills, confidence, and life skills through shared activities and goal-setting.
- School-Based Mentoring (as applicable): Structured mentoring sessions occur on school campuses, focusing on academic engagement, attendance, positive peer relationships, and behavioral health support. - Match Support & Case Management: Professional staff provide ongoing trauma-informed supervision, coaching, and crisis support for matches, ensuring safety, consistency, and progress toward individualized goals. - Mental Health Support: Provide youth with mental health support, promoting healthy social and emotional development for youth impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Wraparound Referrals: Youth and families are connected to mental health services, academic supports, and basic needs resources through established community partnerships.

ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 1460 of 1509 ends

The program serves youth ages 6-21 from low-income households, with a focus on youth experiencing academic risk, social isolation, or exposure to ACEs. In FY2025, 85% of Littles served came from low-income households and 80% from single parent households. Priority is given to youth attending under-resourced schools and those referred by families, schools, or community partners. BBBS-GSA services will be delivered throughout the City of Rancho Cordova, with school-based programming located at partner school sites and community-based matches occurring in neighborhoods where youth live.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
Jacob Peterson, Chief Executive Officer, leads the administrative and fiscal management, providing program oversight.

Chinua Rhodes, Community-Based Program Manager, manages the team implementing our traditional 1:1 mentoring model.

Stacie Grimes, Community-Based Senior Enrollment Specialist, ensures safety and quality assurance measures are met for our community-based matches.

Wendi MacLoad, Enrollment and Match Support Specialist, is responsible for handling all services from inquiry to match, including vetting, interviews, training, and communication with families, volunteers and youth.

Jenny Roberts, Chief Development Officer, is responsible for securing additional funding to sustain the proposed program and develop relationships that grow fiscal support for our services.

Provide your
Project/Program
Goals
The goal of the proposed activity is to grow BBBS-GSA’s CommunityBased Mentoring Program within the City of Rancho Cordova to ensure that youth facing the greatest barriers to success have access to safe, consistent, and professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships.

At BBBS-GSA, we believe that mentorship serves as a transformative lifeline, especially for the most vulnerable youth in our communities.

Through professionally supported mentoring relationships, the primary goal of the Pathways to Potential program is to foster growth, resilience, and success. Through consistent mentoring, the program aims to improve social-emotional well-being, increase school engagement, and reduce risk behaviors associated with isolation and unmet mental health needs.

With funding from the City of Rancho Cordova, BBBS-GSA will establish 10 new mentoring matches, pairing 10 children and youth (“Littles”) with 10 carefully screened, trained, and supported adult volunteer mentors (“Bigs”).

Participating youth will primarily come from high-risk backgrounds, with priority on low-income households, single-parent families, and foster care placements. These youth often experience social isolation, academic challenges, and limited access to supportive adult relationships, placing them at increased risk for negative educational and life outcomes.

Throughout the grant term, the program will meet the following outcomes through clearly defined activities, ensuring the project team’s efforts remain focused:

ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 1461 of 1509 ends

Q1 Outcome: Recruit and Enroll 10 Children/Youth (Littles) and 10 Volunteer Mentors (Bigs) in the City of Rancho Cordova.

Activities:
· Engage partners such as school districts and community agencies to identify children who could benefit from the program; Conduct outreach to children/guardians, explain the program, assess interest. · Launch targeted recruitment campaigns, including public engagements, media outreach, social media promotion; Host orientations and informational sessions.

Q2 Outcome: Support Mentoring Relationships & Strengthen Community Partnerships.

Activities:
· Host "Ready to Be Matched" meetings to connect enrolled children with volunteers; Expand collaborations with local agencies to enhance youth and volunteer referral pipelines.

Year-Round Activities:
· Provide continuous support and regular check-ins with all participants to ensuring match success and review goal progression.
· Conduct evaluations to assess match progress and support needs. · Provide enrolled youth with mental health support including traumainformed case management and/or wraparound supportive services as needed
To measure impact and ensure we meet the needs of the City of Rancho Cordova community, we utilize the Youth Outcomes Survey (YOS). This federally funded survey assesses program impact in various areas, including academic improvement, mental wellness, and the likelihood of graduating high school. Our established program evaluation process supports the impact of mentorship, highlighting the positive impact on a child’s life when he or she has a trusted adult to seek guidance from. After completing a full academic year engaged in the Community-Based Mentoring Program, we aim to show improvements in key categories such as:
+ 90% retention rate of our matches
+ 80% experience an improvement in academics after 6 months in the program
+ 60% experience an improvement in school attendance 6 months into the program
Program participants are also asked to complete the Strength of Relationship (SOR) survey to capture data on relationship qualities that predict strength of relationship between each Big and Little. The survey asks questions about soft skill development, how they feel about ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 1462 of 1509 ends

themselves, avoidance of risky behaviors and overall mental health. We expect to see an over 50% improvement from 80% of youth participants after 6 months engaged in the program.

Data is analyzed using the organization’s national mentoring database, MatchForce, and used to inform program adjustments, strengthen partnerships, and ensure alignment with evidence-based best practice Optional File Upload: Provide any additional records to supplement your program/project application. Year 2026/2027, if

Beyond Fiscal Year 2026/2027, the primary ongoing operations and maintenance costs for BBBS-GSA will continue to be associated with personnel and facility-related expenses necessary to sustain program delivery. As a service-based organization, staffing represents the most significant ongoing investment. Personnel costs include salaries, benefits, and ongoing professional development to ensure that BBBS-GSA can recruit and retain qualified staff responsible for mentor recruitment, youth enrollment, match supervision, and program quality.

In addition, the organization will continue to incur facility and operational expenses required to support daily program activities. These costs include rent, utilities, maintenance, technology, insurance, and other administrative expenses necessary to maintain a safe, accessible, and well-functioning environment for staff, mentors, youth, and families.

What challenges do
you anticipate in your
project/program's
implementation?
What is your plan to
complete your
project/program
should those or other
challenges arise?
BBBS-GSA does not anticipate significant barriers to implementing this project because the proposed work builds on a longstanding, wellestablished mentoring model that is already successfully operating in our community. Our mentoring programs have been implemented for many years and are supported by experienced staff and strong partnerships with local schools and community organizations.

Historically, one of the most common challenges for mentoring programs is maintaining a steady pipeline of qualified volunteer mentors. However, under our current leadership structure, mentor recruitment has significantly strengthened and is no longer a barrier to program implementation. Over the past year, BBBS-GSA has expanded its internal capacity and established dedicated teams for both our community-based and site-based mentoring programs. This structure enables staff to focus on clearly defined goals for mentor recruitment, youth enrollment, and match support, ensuring that the program continues to operate efficiently and at scale.

In addition, BBBS-GSA has significantly increased its presence in the local community through strengthened partnerships with schools, community organizations, and referral networks. These relationships help sustain a consistent pipeline of both Bigs (mentors) and Littles (youth) while ensuring that outreach is targeted to the youth and families who can benefit most from mentoring. This collaborative approach also allows us to respond quickly to changes in demand and maintain strong program participation.

Should unforeseen challenges arise, BBBS-GSA’s established infrastructure which includes trained program staff, standardized enrollment and matching processes, and ongoing match-support protocols, allows the organization to adapt quickly while maintaining program quality and participant safety. Our strong community partnerships and diversified recruitment strategies provide additional flexibility to address fluctuations in mentor or youth participation.

Re: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area To whom it may concern:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area plays an essential role in strengthening our community by providing evidence‑based, one‑to‑one mentoring relationships to children and teens facing adversity. Their commitment to youth development, academic achievement, and long-term well-being has made a meaningful and measurable impact throughout Sacramento County.

Research consistently demonstrates the importance of supportive, non-parental adult relationships in shaping positive outcomes for young people. Mentorship has been shown to improve social-emotional wellness, mental health, academic success, and future economic stability.

The value of mentorship in general, and with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area specifically, hits very close to home for my family and me. I have been a “Big” to a “Little” for 34 years. I entered the program thinking that I might be able to help someone. What happened in my case, and in many other Big/Litle relationships, is much more profound. Our lives and our families have been transformed in too many ways to mention here, but I’d be happy to share our experiences with you all anytime. Big Brothers/ Big Sisters changes lives for all who participate in big, meaningful ways.

Additionally, I have had the opportunity to serve on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area Board of Directors for the last 4+ years. It has been an honor to serve in this capacity with a group of professionals that are committed to improving the lives of youth here in our communities in the Sacramento area.

A grant would enable Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area to expand high-quality mentoring services to even more youth across the region. This investment would not only promote academic readiness and emotional well-being today, but also strengthen long-term community health, stability, and economic opportunity, creating a positive ripple effect for generations to come.

Synopsis
The Handwork program, an extremely vital part of our school's curriculum, is in danger of being lost due to lack of funding. We're seeking funds to ensure our students continue to have access to this critical part of their Waldorf-inspired education.

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
Part of the mission of the AM WINN K-8 Public Waldorf Community Guild is to ensure the school, students, and teachers within our community have all the supplies and tools they need to succeed. The Handwork program within our school has been a key curriculum component for years.

Handwork refers to tasks, crafts, or artistic projects created specifically by hand rather than by machines. It involves manual, often skilled labor, such as sewing, knitting, carving, or jewelry-making, intended to produce unique, detailed, or artistic items.

Common examples include embroidery, weaving, beading, origami, carpentry, and various needlepoint techniques.

In educational contexts, such as Waldorf education, handwork helps children develop dexterity, focus, motor coordination, and patience.

AM WINN K-8 is a public school within the SCUSD, however we are not allotted funds for any of the Waldorf-inspired programs that make us unique, such as Handwork. Funding support will allow us to ensure we can continue to provide the necessary supplies and instructional support to all of our students.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
Our Handwork Program currently consists of one Full-Time Handwork Instructor. She currently is solely responsible for all Handwork instruction and projects for grades 1st-8th. Our goal as a Guild is to ensure she can continue teaching these skills to our students.

Provide your
Project/Program
Goals
Our goal with these funds is the give stability to our Handwork Program for at least the next year. We are also working diligently to hopefully obtain SCUSD funding for Handwork in the near future.
