• Too many different trees. Live oak is too big.
• Unnecessary improvement. Big waste of money
• what is wrong with the trees that are there?
• Where's the psrking
• Why less plants?
• Why not make south of White Oak on Laurel, look like the current 600 > 800 blks of Laurel? Look what it did to those businesses 40 years ago. Why has the true south of Laurel been ignored? Best funds spent here?
• Why not use mostly the same trees for continuity
• Yay native trees! Hate the crape myrtle wildlife desert. • Yay, some CA native trees! Include these in other sections of the plan!
10. How do you like the material palette for streetscape design on "SOLA" Laurel Street, South of Arroyo Avenue (Parkway Character)?
• Again, I would love to see the LED lights in the ground like in Place du Molard in Geneva, Switzerland somewhere in San Carlos! Here is another website with pictures:
https://www.geneva.info/place-du-molard/
• Again, I'm not a fan of the tactile pavers unless they serve a functional purpose. I also believe lighting across the project should have at least one unifying element. • Apparently poor street lights here too.
• art crossing looks very tacky in San Mateo. Please consider that when designing San Carlos
• Art crossing motif scenes out of place and distracting • Art on crosswalks could be too risky and could cheapen the look of not done well. • Best yet though the double curb is weird
• Black trash cans
• Clunky.
• concern about tree lighting and tree health?
• Cool crosswalk!
• Creek motif does not look good very child like and not upscale. Wood seating should continue with the wooden sculpture bench's
• Definitely yes to tree lighting and would love to see the art crossing at all intersections. • Do not like the art crossing
• Don't like art crossing.
• Don't care for the street pole light example. Too Paul Revere. • Don't like tactile pavers
• dont mess with laure st. the closed steet has a historical feel now • Easy walking and not trippable.
• Ensure pavers are flat for ease of walking
• Everything looks great, but I wonder about the art crossing...can we make it relevant to San Carlos? Unless the crosswalk is located next to an actual creek/culvert, this does not make sense.
• Expect for the stainless metal
• Final thoughts: id love to have public restrooms downtown, that you use a credit card or coins to access, like in Netherlands

• Generally I like it! Especially tree lighting. Also love more seating options and the street art.
• Get rid of the whole "pedestrian mall" concept. It never works and it kills business in the long term. Popular at first, but it never lasts. Stick with traditional streets. • How will the wod wear?
• I disagree with the parkway idea. Why not extend the benefits of the welcoming downtown?
• I don' t like the seating.
• I don't like Art Crossing.
• I don't like the smooth concrete
• I especially love the larger natural stone look
• I ike the classic street pole/lighting fixture designes • I like everything except for the old fashioned pole lights. • I like it and really like the tree lighting. Also the Art Crossing with the fish I like alot. Kind of unexpected and playful. Wasn't excited with one that had stripes. • I like it- perhaps add art crossings at other intersections? • I like it! The painted crosswalks are so fun and whimsical. I love the idea of bring the story of water into the downtown.
• I like it. Is there a reason the pedestrian walkway material cannot be permeable? Also, please include some seating with backrests.
• I like the wooden elements
• I like this but the benches need to be higher for older people. • I like tree lighting! I think this area can be more modern. • I love the murals! I wouldn't love walking on the natural brick. It's hard for people with mobility issues and wheelchairs.
• I want three containers wherever we put "trash cans": compost, recycling and landfill. • I'd prefer only a moderate amount of lighting on the trees to reduce light pollution at night.
• If the theme is contemporary, you may want to rethink the Street Pole Light. Also, please add a Land Acknowledgement placque.
• Is rain water drainage during heavy rain storm considered? Eg. Rain garden to divert rain water.
• Is that artwork on the crosswalk? I'd rather see artwork in areas where folks are strolling, not rushing to cross the street.
• Is the streetscaping going to take away parking spaces? If so, I don't agree. • it looks OK, I don't like #3.
• It would be nice to use local wood in the street furnishings. White Oak and other local hardwood would be a nice touch.
• J
• Less shiny metal
• Light fixtures are nice. Art crossing design is awful. • Like Creek Motif (and/or similar). See earlier comments. • Like it but again, too trendy in style of seating. Redesign to be timeless. • Like it, but I think the pole lights should be more modern and I think tree lighting should be on all sections of Laurel and on San Carlos Ave

• Like seating availability. Street lights. Tree lighting is always magical. As long as kept up aesthetically.
• Looks very nice! Nice colors, furnishings. Please work to minimize light excursions • loss of parking
• LOVE it! Especially love the added greenery, art, and lighting • Love most elements, including art crossing. One area I don't quite understand is the planting strip. At that width it almost looks like that area could be a bike designated lane, which would be wonderful.
• Love the art crossing
• love the art crossing! and the wood seating and tree lighting. • love the art crossing, tree lighting and lightpoles
• Love the art crosswalk. light fixture too old fashioned • LOVE the street lighting; don't like the art crossing (where I've seen this it just gets dirty quickly)
• Love the street lights and tree lights
• LOVE tree lighting and painted streets
• maintenance is paramount! at least weekly cleaning!
• make another street light selection
• Make maneuvering with walkers and wheelchairs easy over transitions. • Make seating accessible for older folks (arms, backs) • Make sure material is easy to clean out current sidewalks are disgusting • Maybe do similar for the new plaza at 600 Laurel
• More color.
• Much more in keeping with scale of the area.
• Need materials that are easy to clean and maintain
• Needs to be less modern - the charm of San Carlos is the small town feel - keeps its roots - for example the drake building
• Nice choices to update and refresh this area.
• nice tree lighting. Hope you can do that in other areas as well. • No art crossings
• No artwork on crosswalks.
• No boring ugly gray concrete; replace with warm colored textured concrete to better blend with warm stone and brick type materials.
• No stainless steel look but otherwise like
• No wood
• NO, STOP spending $s on cosmetic stuff
• not a fan of the 'creek motif) Prefer plain-less busy looking Do love the tree lighting. • Not a fan of whimsical crosswalks, whimsical bike racks, or the bollards that look like snowmen.
• Not seeing the point of the Tactile Concrete pavers. The Art Crossing will quickly not look so good - recommend just sticking with white stripes that can be easily repainted.
Same comment about wooden planking for the seating area - it will weather and be a maintenance issue.
• Overall I like it with the same comment about the street pole light being Dark Sky compliant.
• Please ensure light fixtures do not cause nightime sky light pollution

• Please increase permeability of surfaces especially where you currently have concrete. • please keep the tree lighting. Not sure about the art on the crosswalk, its distracting, consider other opportunities for art
• please make it easy for wheelchairs and baby carriages to travel • Please support some “edgier†art. Avoid cute animals and pretty flowers. A sense of humor in art design would be good too.
• Please use downward-facing lights to avoid light pollution. • Pole light design is dowdy! Is Art design/material durable? eventually unsightly? • Really like the Art Crossing pix
• Really like tree lighting. Really like ‘rougher' look of Belgian Block pavers as contrast to swatch of permeable concrete paver. Less ‘polish' looks good. • same comments as before
• Same comments asabove
• same comments for all
• Same pressure washer comment as above.
• See comment before
• see prior light moments
• Seems like the old style lights don't match the modern design • Similar comments regarding material. Mixing of modern with classic light posts. I wish there was more classic look but refreshed with modern materials. Much of this is going to look uninspired in 15-20 years.
• Smooth concrete is going to show imperfections and stains really easily. An exposed aggregate concrete might wear better aesthetically over time and mask naturally occurring cracks so they are less obvious.
• Smooth, power washing surfaces only
• stainless metal could reflect harsh glare
• Street light should have more character more interesting • Street lights should not send light upwards
• Strongly prefer these features over the pedestrian area features presented earlier in the survey.
• That street pole looks like it's from the early 1900's. Is there something more modern looking?
• That's an elevation view, not a section view
• The cobble stone to the curb of the planters next to a smooth walkway looks good but the cobble stone can be hard to walk on for many, such elders, handicap and toddlers. • The crosswalk is adorable. The tree lighting is stupid and wasteful—get rid of that. The wood seating is *gasp* actually functional?!?! What happened? You ran out of pretentious morons and had to hire an actually skilled person to design these? Props to them! Fucking hell—give them the job of designing everything else, too, please. • The natural wood will be hard to maintain
• This is going to make San Carlos Rad!
• This is nice, and please see 'Other Comments' in answer 8. • This will be so much better
• Too much seating. The art crosswalk seems unnecessary. This extends to Greenwood, yes?
• Too too much grey. Add some color variation. Love the lighted trees and Art Crossings!

• Tree lighting, really, sustainability?
• use permeable as much as possible
• What is 2 and 3 for? Artistic crosswalks can be confusing for drivers and pedestrians, and color blind individuals.
• Where's the parking
• While I like it, consider a more consistent lighting style across all aspects of Laurel. We have a more modern style on the pedestrian promenade and then a more antique look the rest of the areas.
• Why have 2 and 3? Why not extend the concrete to make wider sidewalk? • Will this renovation go from Arroyo to Eaton? Or will the lower part of Laurel continue to look bad?
• Yay art crossing!
• You show the same materials for all four characters, stop wasting time • zzzzzz
