Dear Mayor Brock and Esteemed Councilmembers:
As one of your Recreation and Parks Commissioners, I enthusiastically recommend Council's support for the Phase 3 Beach Dune Restoration Project.
The Phase 3 scenario considers the need for restoring portions of the beach with the sustainability goal of protecting against Sea Level Rise, while adjusting for heavily used beach recreation areas and leaving them open for public enjoyment.
Project-specific benefits would include:
• Protection for bird species, including the Western Snowy Plover • Beautified bike path area protected from sand accumulation • Sufficient spacing for emergency vehicles and beach maintenance teams • Designated areas for interpretive experiences for the public • Maximized shoreline recreation space and access from key points such as parking areas and walkways including ADA access
Phase 3 has been planned in a very thoughtful manner. Thank you for your time and consideration of this item.
