RE: Support for Centralized Business Crime Response and Recovery Portal Dear Mayor Torosis, Members of the City Council, and City Manager Chi, I strongly support Councilmember Negrete’s request for a centralized Business Crime Response and Recovery Portal and coordinated response system.

Small businesses are vital to our local economy, but crime can cause serious damage, lost revenue, and safety concerns. A streamlined portal would help businesses report incidents, access City services, and get faster support.

I also support including financial assistance for repair costs, such as broken windows and other property damage, to help businesses recover more quickly.

This is a practical step that would improve City responsiveness and better support local businesses. I urge the Council to approve this request.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Alan Mont

Dear Mayor Torosis, Honorable Members of the City Council, and City Manager Chi, I am writing to express my strong support for Councilmember Negrete’s request that the City Council direct the City Manager to return within 15 days with an implementation plan for a centralized Business Crime Response and Recovery Portal and coordinated response system.

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. When they are impacted by crime, the consequences are immediate and often devastating. Property damage, lost revenue, and safety concerns can threaten a business’s ability to stay open. At the same time, navigating available City resources can be confusing and time consuming when urgent help is needed.

A centralized and streamlined system would provide a clear and accessible pathway for businesses to quickly report incidents, access City services, and receive coordinated and timely support across departments. This approach would reduce delays in recovery and help businesses reopen faster.

It is also important that this effort includes financial assistance mechanisms to support small businesses facing unexpected costs. This should include coverage or reimbursement for damages such as broken windows and other property repairs that many small businesses cannot easily absorb.

This is a practical and solution focused proposal that strengthens economic resilience, improves City responsiveness, and demonstrates meaningful support for the business community.

I respectfully urge the Council to support this request and prioritize swift implementation.

Thank you for your leadership and attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,
Ashley Oelsen

Might I suggest that the Council create a crime recovery portal streamlining resource access for ALL victims of crime in Santa Monica, not just businesses?
Directing limited City and other resources to only one segment of our community risks reducing availability to others, including residents.

Also, your broadening the reach of the proposed portal would avoid the appearance of self-serving direction on any one Councilmember’s part.

Thanks,
Kevin
