Ian Wilkinson
Muralist
March 14, 2024
To whom it may concern:

My name is Ian Wilkinson. I’ve been a muralist for 35 years. I have witnessed the rise of the Street Art movement from its inception. I am excited to see how it has grown and shape its trajectory. I have traveled around the world making murals and had the pleasure of working with many of the legendary artists in our genre.

I have seen the rise of mural and street art programs in cities all over the United States and participated in many of these projects big and small. My colleagues and I have discussed the various programs at length. One thing is always clear.

Wide Open Walls in Sacramento Ca, is without fail, listed always at the top of programs if not the top.

It’s so hard to name another program that has taken better care of artists over the years. They go to such lengths to get their participants quickly and comfortably to the creation stage. This may seem like an obvious requisite protocol. But in all reality it is much more difficult to actually achieve.

There’s often miles of tape to cut through before professional artists can arrive at that moment of creation. Very few , if any of the programs and projects happening around the nation each year, cut down the obstacles for artists the way WOW has.

Beyond that immense undertaking, WOW celebrates the artists , with community meals, parties, and events. They show such warmth and gratitude and give their artist these invaluable moments to bond and connect and forge our community.

The connections made between artists at their events have been the catalyst for many other amazing productions.

I hope that other street art programs around the world could have a window into the mechanics of this program and build from its exemplary operation. It has forged tremendous strength for our movement, and stands as a beacon for how to connect artists and their work to the public. It is with such ease and honor that I get to write this, as I cannot fully express the immense gratitude I have for my involvement with this organization
Sincerely,
Ian Wilkinson

To whom it may concern:

Please accept this letter as a sign of support for Wide Open Walls’ grant application for its WOW Festival.

Public art, and celebration of arts and culture, are essential for any tourism destination. Wide Open Walls has provided visitors with a vibrant, citywide gallery of murals that can be explored at any time, and continues to entice both residents and tourists to discover Sacramento’s neighborhoods through art. But more than that – Wide Open Walls has transformed the city itself.

While Sacramento’s arts and culture scene continues to grow, our reputation as a festival host is also flourishing. The WOW Festival offers an ideal blend of both attributes and gives visitors yet another reason to come and experience Sacramento.

We look forward to welcoming the WOW Festival back to the Sacramento region and support their efforts to enrich our city landscape for both residents and visitors alike.

Sincerely,
Mike Testa

Synopsis
Green Valley Theatre Company is a non-profit organization that produces 4 shows every season as part of a Mainstage Series. These include musicals, plays, and original works. They are intended to generate community involvement, as well as a focus on a positive collective impact for the community .

Project/Program
Description
Green Valley Theatre is a community-based company committed to bringing out what is most fun about the theatrical experience with productions that inspire, engage, and tickle the funny bone. Whether you’ve attended one of our main stage productions, seen our touring puppet theatre, or joined us late in the night for our annual production of The Rocky Horror Show, Green Valley Theatre Company promises performances of the highest quality created by artists whose work reflects commitment and passion.

Green Valley Theatre Company was founded in 2006 with the intention of serving to uplift the voices of participating artists. It was founded with the purpose of celebrating the perspectives found in shows that are not produced by most theatre companies. We focus on benefitting our residents who love or are new to theater by giving them a creative outlet that is affordable, engaging and inclusive.

The board, staff, and volunteers at Green Valley Theatre believe in the transformative power of the arts to enrich lives and revitalize communities.

We also recognize the true value and the critical role that diversity serves in helping our theater and community thrive. By reflecting the diversity of the Sacramento area, we model diversity and inclusion for the entire arts industry of the nonprofit sector and better serve our patrons’ needs for art and culture. GVTC contribute to the region by providing diverse entertainment/arts programming that respects and values diverse life experiences and heritages. GVTC aligns with Rancho Cordova's vision of arts being inclusive to all, and we have a unique opportunity to be an affordable option for all community members to enjoy the theater experience. We are committed to sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and equitable space where everyone who walks through our doors - patrons, artists, volunteers, and collaborators - feels valued and respected regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, education, or ability.

Multiple times throughout each season GVTC plans a series of workshops free of charge that allows artists to expand their skills or explore new performance aspects. From 2021 to present GVTC has provided workshops on puppetry, physical comedy, and in traditional Commedia Dell’Arte characterization.

GVTC has a multitude of projects and programs that are presented throughout the year. We are asking for funding for Mainstage shows only, but wanted to include all of the other programs we offer and how they will enhance the community.

MAIN-STAGE
Green Valley Theatre Company produces 4 shows as part of the Mainstage Series. These include musicals, plays, and original works. They usually run for 4 weeks and typically have 12 performances. Our annual production of The Rocky Horror Show is the final Mainstage show of each season and runs in October.

THE VERTEFEE CABARET
This variety show runs in between each Mainstage production. This unique variety show is reminiscent of 1920s vaudeville and includes song, dance, comedy, burlesque, circus arts, and a live band. This program is immensely popular and has become the heart and soul of the company.

The Cabaret runs for one weekend and occurs 4-5 times per year

GVTC PUPPETS
Puppetry has always been a large part of Green Valley Theatre’s work. At least one Mainstage show per season incorporates some type of puppet performance. In addition, various smaller shows are developed each season and have been featured at events and festivals such as The Pacific Rim Festival, The Wakamatsu Farm Festival, The Crocker Art Museum ArtMix, and the San Francisco Edwardian Ball. Our puppets have appeared in collaboration with numerous local performance groups including Hawkins School of Performing Arts, B Street Theatre, and annually with The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra.

GVTC STUDIO
For the past few years Green Valley Theatre Company has begun working in film either as part the art department, talent, or as production company.

Past collaborations include working with Franklin Pictures, NK Media, David Garibaldi, and The California Department of Water Resources. In the Summer of 2021 GVTC was the production company for The Chevalier Project, a narrative documentary about Joseph Bolonge, a contemporary of Mozart and preeminent composer of the African Diaspora.

BETWEEN THE SHEETS
Approximately once per quarter GVTC hosts table readings of new plays as part of its ongoing effort to explore new work and promote diverse voices within the theatrical community. These informal events feature local actors and include talk-back and discussion of each work. They are free to the CEIF App #13

Goals
Green Valley Theatre Company is constantly seeking out work that is not produced anywhere else in the region. GVTC strives to present shows that are unique and that reflect more diverse perspectives than the classic Broadway musicals that are popular with larger companies. We often must negotiate with publishers in other countries in order to obtain performance rights to shows for which there is no North American representation. Our 2022-2023 season featured 2 such shows. Tipping the Velvet is a brilliant play by Laura wade based on the book by Sarah Waters which tells the story of a young woman in Brighton who falls in love with a gender queer music hall star. While this show was exceedingly popular in England it has not yet been performed in the US. Our March run will be the North American premier. The same can be said for our production of Oliver Lansley’s The Terrible Infants which had not be produced in the US.

GVTC's goal is to bring the community and it citizens an organization that gives voices to stories never or not often told, and expand learning opportunities through workshops and gatherings. We also want to promote community and expansion by providing the opportunity for involvement through volunteering, performance and patronage.

Subject: Re: Green Valley Theatre Company
Hi Randi Kay/Lindsay,
You probably know that for the past couple of years we make it possible for theatre groups to use our black box theatre for rehearsals and productions. Hummingbird and Green Valley Theatre Company. In my mind, Green Valley is one of the best theatre companies in Sacramento. They consistently produce great shows, several of which I have seen, and am often left dazzled by the production values and the actors they always seem to find.

Christopher Cook is the artistic director of Green Valley, and I would like to introduce him to you. He has now moved, and based his company in Rancho Cordova so I thought would be a good idea for you to know about them as he holds a RC business license. FYI, this weekend they open their latest show, Murder Ballad, here at the black box.

So, there you have it. Christopher, meet Randi Kay, and Lindsay who work in the best dept at City Hall (Community Enhancement). Of course, they won't agree but it's my favorite dept with Comms a close equal.

Thanks guys!

Suvidha International Foundation aims to organize a vibrant and culturally enriching celebration of Diwali in the City of Rancho Cordova. Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in India and is celebrated by millions of people around the world, including a growing community here in Rancho Cordova. The pilot Diwali Celebrations organized by the Overseas Volunteers for a Better India and Suvidha International Foundation with the City of Rancho Cordova's community grant in 2023 was a big success. The celebrations brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, nurtured community cohesion, and showcased how the diversity of cultures can bolster the resilience and inclusivity of our communities. The community expressed gratitude to the City of Rancho Cordova and the Suvidha International Foundation for organizing the Diwali celebrations and requested the Foundation to continue hosting them due to the event’s positive impact on cultural enrichment and community bonding.

Synopsis

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
Founded in 2008, Ankur is a Non-Profit organization that promotes South East Asian culture through community service and socio-cultural events.

One such event is Basant Panchami, also known as the Festival of Knowledge. It is one of the eminent festivals heralding the arrival of spring season. This festival has its significance as the young children start their first step in the field of education by writing the letters of thealphabet. The festival is celebrated in many countries, such as India, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, Surinam, Fiji, Japan, Tibet, and the USA.

The criteria below will help guide the City’s evaluation process and selection of our projects for grant funding:
• Community Pride: Festival of Knowledge receives overwhelming popularity, enticing other entities to show high interest in associating themselves with us. This includes the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, etc. Our events were posted on both KCRA and FOX 40 websites, bringing visibility and pride to the community and the City of Rancho Cordova.
• Arts, Culture, History, and Entertainment: All the proposed events have strong content of Arts, Culture, History, and Entertainment. The festival displays Kids and Adults' talent in various Arts and Cultural Areas. This includes Essay Competition, Music, Dance Performances, Drawing Exhibitions, Public Speaking, External Artist Performances etc. • Children and Youth: Festival of Knowledge greatly focuses on the Children and Youth participation. This year, we had a Quiz Competition, which was appreciated by folk fromCalifornia State University, Sacramento.
• Business/Economic Development: This event is held in Rancho Cordova.

Folks traveled far from places like Stockton, Yuba City, as well as Reno, NV, to attend our events. Next year we expect more visitors, which will generate more revenue for the city.

Why partner with Ankur?

Page 282 of 2037 ends

Ankur has a long-standing tradition of supporting the community. Highlighted are a few of our reasons for partnering with us:
• Leverage other funding resources: Through our application, you will notice that we only request partial funding. All Ankur events (projects) use existing funding, resources, and partnerships. This approach is adopted to embolden the delivery of these services further to enhance scope and outcomes. The other funding sources include:
• Individual annual membership contribution;
• Corporate grants for volunteer hours (wherever applicable); • Corporate grants for employee donation match (wherever applicable); • Requesting grants from entities like the City of Rancho Cordova City Enhancement Fund;
• Fundraising activities like volunteer appreciation, etc. Profits go towards donation to Ankur;
• Advertisement revenue from Vendors and business owners for providing space during our Cultural events;
• Advertisement revenue from Vendors and business owners for providing space on our website; and
Since 2019, COVID-19 has impacted us negatively in reducedmembership contributionsn and increased labor costs. Having said that we expect to be self-sufficient by 2030
• Return on Investment Ankur events will bring the following benefits to the City of Rancho Cordova community:
• Our events are open to everyone, which means that we cater to more and more audiences each year. They then spread the word about the festival they attended within the City of Rancho Cordova. • Our programs and events are held at the Cordova Recreation and Park District (CRPD), and a substantial amount of the funding request goes towards reserving and utilizing the venues. In addition, we try to procure items needed for our events from businesses and entities located within the City of Ranch Cordova. The intent is that most of the money/grant that we spend should stay within the City.
• Capacity and Capability: Ankur is a decade-old non-profit organization.

Ankur started with a member base of just 20 people. Today, our member base exceeds 300+ people. Our cultural programs are attended by over 1500 people across Northern California, including Yuba City and Chico. • No Discrimination: Ankur has a Zero Discrimination Policy. We do not discriminate against any group based on race, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or disability;
• Volunteers: work for Free;
CEIF App #16
ITEM 3.1. ATTACHMENT 4

Page 283 of 2037 ends

• We do not promote any specific religion, political candidates, parties, ideologies or campaigns;
• Zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol policy: Absolutely no possession, consumption, or intoxication of alcohol or illegal substances is permitted while attending or participating in Ankur events.

If ANKUR cannot hold the event indoor due to COVID or any other restrictions, then we will do the following :

2. Invest on pre-recorded programs leveraging Quality Recording and Live Digital Tools.

3. Multiple Vendors along with Volunteers will be engaged so that we can produce a quality virtual program.

From 2020 we have had a great experience in conducting our events both in-person and virtual. We will use best practices and lessons learned from these events to ensure that we continue to hold our events per City, County, State and Federal health and safety guidelines. Alternatively if California Public Health and/or Sacramento County Health Orders permit then we have also planned to have the event outdoor using Open Auditorium and/or Social Distancing. At this moment we are keeping all our options open and will plan accordingly.

Our organization is committed to ensuring the continued success and impact of our project Kites festival beyond the initial grant period. Our sustainability plan is multifaceted, incorporating various strategies to secure ongoing funding, engage the community, and adapt to changing circumstances.

We recognize the importance of diversifying our funding sources to reduce dependency on the city grant. In addition to the grant funding, we plan to seek support from private foundations, individual donors, corporate sponsorships, and earned income streams. By broadening our funding base, we aim to mitigate the risk of funding gaps and ensure the financial stability of the project Kites festival over time.

Community support is essential to the sustainability of our project. We will actively engage with local residents, stakeholders, and partners to cultivate a sense of ownership and investment in the initiative. This includes hosting community events, workshops, and outreach activities to raise awareness, gather feedback, and mobilize support. By fostering strong relationships with the community, we aim to build a network of advocates and volunteers who will champion the kites festival program and contribute to its long-term success.

Our organization is committed to ensuring the continued success and impact of our project Flowers festival beyond the initial grant period.

By broadening our funding base, we aim to mitigate the risk of funding gaps and ensure the financial stability of the project Flowers festival over time.

Community support is essential to the sustainability of our project. We will actively engage with local residents, stakeholders, and partners to cultivate a sense of ownership and investment in the initiative. This includes hosting community events, workshops, and outreach activities to raise awareness, gather feedback, and mobilize support. By fostering strong relationships with the community, we aim to build a network of advocates and volunteers who will champion the Flowers festival program and contribute to its longterm success.

Project/Program
Synopsis
GSS is a local non-profit organization that aims to bring together gujaratis (people with origins from Gujarat, a State in India) to enhance and promote its cultural diversity. We accomplish this by hosting a number of events annually for our members. These events include Annual Picnic and Navratri.

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
The Navratri Festival is very unique to the State of Gujarat, where the young, adults and elders (both male and female) come together to dance as part of the celebrations of the female Goddess that destroyed evil and established the good, faith and happiness. In previous years, we have celebrated this festival at Mather Sports Complex or at a Folsom Cordova School District multipurpose room. We are looking for venue for two nights to host this event in 2024. We hope to find a partner in the City that can assist in hosting this event.

The Annual Picnic is a way to gather our members and share food from our culture thereby passing our roots to young kids. Previously, we have successfully hosted this event at Stone Creek Community Park. We hope to continue that for next year.

Last year, we embarked on another event- the Sports/Kids event. This is where we bring together kids, adults and seniors and allow them to show their skills in traditional Indian sports and games. We previously held this event at the Lincoln Village Community Park. We had sack races, lemon and spoon races, Kabbadi, Yoga, and cricket match to promote sports and games from our culture and region. This year, we again plan to host this event at Lincoln Village Community Park.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
At GSS, we strongly believe in teamwork. It is a non-profit organization so all the work is done by volunteers. We have two committees- Benefactor Committee and Executive Committee. The benefactor committee provides an oversight of the entire organization and the executive committee provides day to day operations. The events are lead and implemented by executive committee members with support from benefactor committee.

We have some elected members to the executive committee- President (Daksha Shah), Secretary (Vyomini Upadhyay) and Treasurer (Ashok Patel). Other EC members include- Adit Joshi, Rupal Shah, Asha Patel, Misha Shukla, Jay Jardosh, Kishore Patel, Dilavar Badhia.

We have faced numerous physical (venue) and financial challenges to host these events. Our events are attended by large number of people, so we need huge hall space for Navratri. We also need a softball field for sports event. We plan ahead our events so that we have ample time to request venue/space, identify a lead for the event to have one point of communication and raise funds through sponsorship from our members to meet expenses. Post Covid-19, due to inflation, we have experienced high fees for rentals, food and labor needed for our events. 4 - Project/Program Location

Description
Sacramento Children’s Museum requests $84,550 from the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund to bring a new immersive exhibit called Building Buddies to our Museum in Fall/Winter 2024.

Project Description
The Building Buddies 1,500-square-foot exhibit portrays a small community where everyone is busy working on their homes. Different characters, or “buddies,” invite young children to play, explore, collaborate, create and learn while improving the neighborhood. The exhibit is composed of seven core areas and features role-play learning experiences that encourage kids to plan, renovate, decorate, paint, tile, and build.

Children will be able to grab a hard hat and safety vest and use simple machines like a wheelbarrow, conveyor belt, and pulley; use foam bricks to build walls for a doghouse; tighten leaky pipes by connecting pipes and fittings together on a magnetic wall; lay down floor tiles in different shapes; and more! Building Buddies was developed by LooDo Exhibits and is touring in partnership with Sciencenter, a hands-on science museum in Ithaca, NY.

This hands-on STEAM exhibit will be located in our Museum's Education wing, which is known as “Leo’s Learning Lab,” and will be open to the public September 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025. School field trip groups also will have an opportunity to visit, play with, and learn from this exhibit during this time frame.

Funding Details
Grant funding from the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund will support the entire cost of this exhibit. Funds will cover the exhibit’s rental fee; shipping, receiving, and installation costs; marketing costs; and personnel expenses for set-up coordination and development of complementary educational programming. Funds also will be used to provide free class field trips for about 500 Rancho Cordova CEIF App #21

Empowering Youth: Launching Free Pop-Up Thrift Events; Brand name would be CLOTH (Cordova Lancers Offering Their Help)
Provide a
Project/Program
Synopsis
Empowering youth through initiatives that foster community engagement and social responsibility is paramount in shaping future leaders. Our proposal aims to establish a Free Quarterly Pop-Up Thrift Event led by teens, serving as a platform for sustainable practices, community outreach, and the promotion of thrift culture.

Provide a
Project/Program
Description
CLOTH (Cordova Lancers Offering Their Help)
The Free Pop-Up Thrift initiative(CLOTH) led by teens is a dynamic project designed to address multiple societal needs while empowering young individuals to take charge of community initiatives. This venture centers around the establishment of a "pop up" thrift store that operates on an entirely free basis, with the focus being on ensuring accessibility to individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds in Rancho Cordova.

The Free Pop-Up Thrift team will collaborate with local businesses, community organizations, and schools to gather donations of gently used clothing. This collaborative effort not only ensures a steady supply of inventory but also fosters a sense of community cohesion.

By promoting the reuse and repurposing of pre-loved items, the initiative advocates for sustainable consumption practices.

Beyond providing free items to those in need, the Pop-Up Thrift Events will serve as a hub for community outreach and support. Partnering with local shelters, schools, and social service agencies, the initiative will identify individuals and families who can benefit from the resources offered by the thrift store.

Participating teens will gain valuable skills in project management, teamwork, customer service, and financial literacy through their involvement in the initiative. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship by learning about budgeting, marketing, and sales techniques.

What: CLOTH is community outreach, where clothes are given to those who can’t afford clothes, who don’t own clothes that suit the current season, or giving clothes to shelters to support shelter residents. Clothes will be cultivated from Folsom-Cordova Unified School District (lost and found bins in schools K-12), donations kindly given by community members (Facebook and other social media sites to ask for donations) and donation CEIF App #22

bins set around Cordova High. We would seek sponsors such as a laundromats to clean clothes and an area to set up shop. (Cost of cleaning clothes $1.25 per pound)
At the pop-up events there will be a sign up sheet to insure "shoppers" are happy.

One person should get 1) a shirt 2.) a coat 3.) pants 4.) shoes (or four items of choice)
Each family/group will be given a certain amount of time to shop.

Depending on area 1-3 families/groups may go at once. If time and items permit at the end shopping will be open. Items left will be kept for next popup or donated.

When: Events will occur quarterly (four times a year). Time would be 11 a.m - 3 p.m on Saturdays
Where: Events will be hosted at outside spaces. (possibly places City Hall, Hagan Park, Local Churches, etc.)
How: Through a group of volunteers and sponsors. We need volunteers to help us gather, wash, and sort clothes; as well as organizer for events. A warehouse or storage of some sort will be needed to keep our clothes. (Cordova High may be a possible storage) A laundromat sponsors will be sought. If finding a laundromat doesn’t work out we could possibly get volunteers to help wash clothes.

Why: We want to repurpose unwanted clothes to protect the less fortunate while also bringing the Rancho Cordova community closer together, we would like to stop pounds of clothes being thrown away once no one claims them in lost and found bin. Our entire purpose in CLOTH is to help provide for families that are barely living paycheck to paycheck, support parents to provide the thrifting experience (thrifting is popular and cool). We want to provide a necessary resource that should be readily accessible to everyone no matter socioeconomic background.

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
The initiative CLOTH is spearheaded by two motivated teenagers who are passionate about sustainability, community service, and entrepreneurship.

These young leaders will be involved in every aspect of the project, from planning and organizing to implementation and evaluation. William Wallace and Aleki McMoore are Juniors at Cordova High, have an avid interest in clothing, are contributing members of our community working many volunteer services hours. With the help of Jason Harper who has a vast network of expertise, we aim to achieve greater community harmony. We enjoy thrifting, Free Pop-Up Thrifting would provide enjoyment no matter your social economic background.

Goals
The Pop-Up Thrift Events initiative led by teens has the potential to make a significant impact on both the local community and the participating youth. It also represents a unique opportunity to harness the passion, creativity, and energy of young people in service of a greater good. By providing a platform for young leaders to effect positive change, fostering sustainable practices, and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, this project embodies the spirit of youth empowerment and community service. Through collaboration, education, and outreach, this project has the power to transform lives, strengthen communities, and inspire future generations of leaders committed to positive social change.

The success of CLOTH will be determined by the success of the Events.

Where 4 events held? How many people were helped by the events? Did William and Aleki learning? Will CLOTH continue?

Description
The Sudanese Association of Greater Sacramento (SAGS) is a non-profit organization promoting the Sudanese culture and supporting the Sudanese American community in the greater Sacramento area. SAGS is a dedicated space for the Sudanese people to grow and uplift each other. We welcome all newcomers into the community and provide them with the help and resources needed to establish themselves. We also thrive to educate the public about the rich Sudanese culture and engage them by organizing cultural events. All of our events are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Finally, one of our main goals is to engage the youth in activities and events that bring them together via sports, mentoring, or other activities.

SAGS is a non-profit 501(c3) organization. We are in good standing with all the regulatory agencies, and we are built on the tireless dedication and volunteerism of our members and working committees. This year we are planning 12-15 events that vary from youth engagement to cultural celebrations, to mental health workshops, to career development and job application support. This grant funding will help SAGS deliver all these events and grow our membership. We are also hoping to lease permanent space for our organization, which at a minimum will require $3,000-$5,000 a month depending on the space. That's why this funding request is so critical.

Tell us about your

Team
SAGS is run by a dedicated team of community volunteers. Our Board of Directors, as well as all the committees are100% volunteers that work tirelessly to deliver services to the community. None of the funds go towards paying for any staff or any volunteer.

Synopsis
Capital Airshow Group’s NEW “Destination Aviation” STEM program will engage students (ages 9-14) with a deep dive into aviation career fields through experiential learning, allowing participants to engage in hands-on learning activities, and memorable guest speakers in a camp-style environment.

Description
The Capital Airshow Group is committed to consistently delivering EDUCATION, EXPOSURE and ACCESS through no-cost programs that help our future workforce take flight. The student events we produce are not only designed to explore the extraordinary career opportunities in STEM, aviation, and aerospace – but also to show the educational paths available with a “what’s next” component via role models and mentors capable of launching dreams into careers. We have been successful in helping to define the path for young people to find their passion and land in one of these high-paying and rewarding career fields.
----
Our key student STEM programs are fully established in terms of format, timing, logistics and content. Each year we collaborate with a variety of partners who provide speakers, drone operators, scientists, engineers, pilots, aircraft, vehicles, and equipment for FREE student events held at our home, Mather Airport, thanks to a recent 10-year agreement with Sacramento County. Without these industry relationships and strategic partners, our programs would lack focus.

Our current STEM events roster includes volunteer participation from s a wide-variety of employers, such as UPS, REACH, City of Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County and the Department of Airports, Modern Aviation, FAA, EVA Flight Training, Mather Aviation, Intel, SMUD, Lockheed Martin, Teichert, Micron, Aerometals, PGE, Verizon, United States Department of Defense, Sacramento City College, California Aeronautical University, and many more.

This extensive network, coupled with our established experiential STEM learning format uniquely qualifies us to leverage the investment we are requesting to dramatically increase the number of local students who can experience eye-opening and breath-taking STEM in action through an ALLNEW program. ----

The Capital Airshow Group’s NEW camp-style DESTINATION AVIATION program will engage approximately 1,250 students (ages 9-14) spanning five events over nine months with a deep dive into flight. These FREE events will encourage participants to explore ALL aviation-related career fields, with hands-on learning activities, expeditions and tours, along with interactive presentations and live demonstrations, in a camp-style environment. Given the location of Mather Airport, where our educational programs are held, at least 85% of the 1,250 students served (1,063 students) will be from Rancho Cordova schools. We will promote the opportunity to the four local school districts: Folsom Cordova, Elk Grove Unified, Sacramento City and San Juan. Specific schools of interest include those located closest to Mather Airport, including Mather Heights, Navigator Elementary, Cordova Villa Elementary, AM Winn, Abraham Lincoln, Sunrise Elementary, McGarvey Elementary, George Washing Carver, Mills Middle School, and Mitchell Middle School.

DESTINATION AVIATION will provide a safe, fun, and engaging environment that fosters curiosity and excitement for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through aviation. In an era dependent on innovation and creativity, our programs will also provide participants with a platform for cultivating their interests while working collaboratively with their peers to develop lifelong learning skills.

Each program will include in-depth explorations and field trips including:
· Exploring the fundamentals of the physics of flight and applications in aeronautical engineering
· Engaging in the science, technology, engineering and math of aviation and aeronautics
· Exposure to actual and simulator flying, charts/navigation, air traffic control, unmanned aerial systems, fire, rescue and air ambulance, mission planning, virtual reality, AI, FAA functions, and a wide-variety airport administration careers
· Instruction on aircraft design and maintenance
· Lessons in aviation history
· Developing leadership skills by working with others to share ideas and solve problems
· Discovering solutions to challenges that affect individuals, communities, and the world
· Fostering curiosity and a commitment to scholarship through hands-on experiences
----
Local students are our most valuable resource. By adding DESTINATION AVIATION to our programming, the Capital Airshow Group intends to provide expanded STEM learning experiences at no out-of-pocket cost to the school or families of these students opening their eyes to the wonder CEIF App #25

Tell us about your
Project/Program
Team
The Capital Airshow Group is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors of elected/appointed members that represent a wide variety of regional industry, employers, educators, and leadership. Each member either leads or supports one of nine committees for planning and execution of the mission.

There are two full-time staff: an executive director with an extensive aviation background and director of operations, a credentialed teacher recruited specifically for educational program development. A small group of specialized contractors are engaged for education, safety, and other project needs. More than 1,000 volunteers serve throughout the year and are on-call for educational programs.

Provide your
Project/Program
Goals
The Capital Airshow Group doesn’t want to see aviation, aerospace & STEM industries missing out on a huge pool of talent and exceptional leaders…inspired and educated right here in our own community.

The needs facing our nation are great and the opportunities endless. Over the next ten years, 300,000 new pilots, 700,000 aircraft mechanics, and 20,000 air traffic controllers are needed. The FAA is short on staffing and new recruits, airport administrators could use help, and there will be a significant increase in need for aerospace engineers. In addition, with a combination of modern technologies, changing consumer needs, and a growing focus on sustainability, drones will influence the future in every aspect of industry from mobility to infrastructure, development and traffic management. This explosive growth leads to a multitude of opportunities for UAV pilots, designers, engineers, and tech professionals.

We want to be active participants in changing these recruiting results and slow-moving trends while taking every opportunity to stimulate interest at every age, gender and background towards these high paying, in-demand jobs.

The goals and objectives of DESTINATION AVIATION programming is straightforward:

We strive to inspire the youth of today, regardless of economic standing or any other demographical data points, to dream big and to realize that there is an exciting, challenging and rewarding world full of options that involve science, technology, engineering, math, aviation, and aerospace.

DESTINATION AVIATION is designed to educate and inspire - usually in an entertaining format. To the extent we can increase the number of students who participate, then that many more will have the opportunity to open their eyes to possibilities they didn't know even existed. We truly believe, IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN BE IT!
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to consider our proposal.

Grant Committee Members
Sacramento, CA
Dear Committee Members:

I am writing to express my support for the $75,000 grant request submitted by the Capital Airshow Group (dba the California Capital Airshow).

The Airshow is an annual event celebrating the Sacramento Region’s rich aviation history, drawing tens of thousands of attendees, many of whom are families with school-aged children. The Airshow has been very successful in leveraging the excitement of the airshow to provide educational offerings at no cost to area schools and students while also providing free tickets for their family members to attend the Airshow.

From aviation science and STEM activities to career exploration, the Airshow has exposed thousands of students (many from
disadvantaged communities) to flying-related career opportunities.

These programs provide hands-on learning and showcase
extraordinary STEM, aviation, and aerospace career opportunities.

At first, many students do not believe these careers are accessible.

Still, after working with the Airshow’s many mentors and role models participating in these programs, students understand that if they can see it, they can be it.

One such Airshow program that I have volunteered to design and emcee is the annual STEM Expo, where over 300 youth participate in a 3-hour conference followed by customized tours at the Airshow.

The Airshow is eager to expand the number of programs offered each year, including a wider variety of topics introduced by inspirational experts, while increasing the number of student participants. Funding will help the California Capital Airshow unleash the potential of even more students, cultivating aspirations and playing a role in developing a younger, more diverse, and capable workforce...a project that will benefit our region for years to come.

Sincerely,
Laura Mason-Smith

viable as a single

Provide your
Project/Program
Goals
With funding support from the City of Rancho Cordova's Community Enhancement and Investment Fund, Sacramento Children's Museum aims to achieve the following goals:

1. Expand our daily visitor capacity and enhance visitors' Museum experience by opening the entire Museum space (i.e., Leo’s Learning Lab and the main Museum floor) Tuesdays-Sundays;

2. Add more Museum staff to accommodate our growing programs, including education, fundraising, and exhibit maintenance;

3. Increase the numbers of underserved families who visit SCM through our Museum Access Programs; and

4. Host 6 annual community events for each year of funding.

We will measure our success in meeting these goals by tracking visitor attendance numbers and by whether or not we increase our FTE staffing.

In addition, customer surveys are sent out after each event to track customer satisfaction.

Optional File Upload: Provide any additional records to supplement your program/project application. Note: Combine multiple files in one pdf before uploading.

Description
The Vision, The Void, The Call to ACTION!!!
-Vision
At MFYSL it is our mission to provide positive outlets for at risk youth through free sports (Flag Football, Basketball, MMA, and Volleyball). Not only do we provide sports for our youth here at MFYSL but we also believe that character matters! All coaches will be trained and required to help mentor and teach our youth the character curriculum we've developed ourselves called (Character of Champions). Character of Champions consist of our 7 pillars of Gold which are Respect, Kindness, Self Control, Self Discipline, Resilience, Perserverance and Composure. This will not only enhance the quality of athletics and sportsmanship in Rancho Cordova but be the foundation to a better quality of citizenship for the future of our beloved city of Rancho Cordova.
-The Void
Mayes Freeman Youth Sports League was named after two gifted athletes that grew up in Rancho Cordova Marcus Mayes and Mark Freeman who were also best friends. Marcus Mayes was an all-star at Mills Little League while Mark Freeman was a gifted wide receiver for the then Rosemont JR Warriors as Lincoln Village was not yet inside of our city limits forcing families to travel Hiram Johnson area for school and or athletics. Both sports programs are no longer in existence.

Unfortunately, during his middle school and high school years Marcus Mayes would stop playing sports and joined a well-known gang here is Rancho Cordova (East Side Piru). The gang influence and lifestyle eventually led to his death as he was a victim of gun violence and was gunned down on Lincoln Village drive and Viking way in May of 2008 at only the age of 18.

Mark Freeman was a promising athlete as well but dealt with health issues he battled with his entire life and also was surrounded with gang influence here in Rancho. Freeman sadly would battle with mental health issues during the final days of his life which was one of the symptoms in the health defect he was born with and in March of 2020 that battle would sadly come to an end. Mark Freeman was only 31.
- The Call to Action
Marcus Mayes and Mark Freeman are only two of the countless stories of many youths from Rancho Cordova that could have benefitted from an affordable/free sports and mentorship program that helps redirect youth to a positive outlet with positive influence and positive role models. At MFYSL we carry this mission in our hearts as we fulfill the purpose in making our community stronger.

areas for improvement.

Social Network Analysis: Examine the relationships and interactions within the community network to understand how the program has influenced social connections, networks and support systems.

Our team will remain focused by having mandatory weekly meetings which will reenforce program goals mission expectations code of conduct policies and procedures. Also, by having weekly meetings any questions concerns or issues could be brought up to be discussed and resolved.
