Eric Scherer
Community Development Director
City of La Verne
3663 D Street
La Verne, CA. 91
Hello Eric,
This letter is to request support from the City of La Verne and City Council with installation of the 2nd Annual Walk of Honor plaques in Old Town.
The initiation of this community project in 2025 was received as a huge success, recognizing 10 worthy residents for their long commitment to improving life in La Verne. Crucial to the project was the assistance of the City, especially from Public Works, which created an attractive and lasting public display. The Walk of Honor Committee has identified the 10 honorees for 2026 and we are ready to move forward.
The Committee is composed of 9 individuals who have all contributed a high level of civic involvement in La Verne. Honorees are selected by the Committee based on their longtime selfless contribution to our city. They made their mark in many areas of civic participation be it leadership in government, athletics, volunteer service or other categories. Their biographical stories are featured on the Walk of Honor website, accessible to all to enjoy and learn. It is true that public recognition serves to inspire and encourage others to make a difference, something certainly worthy of City support.
We are requesting a partnership with the City of La Verne to complete this year’s project.
The organization, recognized as a tax-exempt 501c.3 corporation, will be responsible for creating and paying for the 10 plaques. In addition, we will pay for any out-of-pocket costs the City may incur including concrete and overtime labor costs if needed. We are requesting that the City cover the cost of administrative review and installation labor at the sidewalk location in Old Town. It is anticipated that the plaques will be able to be delivered to the City before November 20th, 2026 for preparation with a non-slip coating that we will provide.
Agenda Packet - October 5, 2026
As with last year, a dedication ceremony is planned to unveil the installed plaques on Saturday December 5th at Mainero Square at 12pm. This activity would again be in conjunction with the Old Town La Verne Holiday Stroll event.
We look forward to continuing this relationship with the City for many years ahead. Thank you for your support and we look forward to hearing what the next steps forward will be.
Thank You,
Craig Walters
